Zoho, SMEDAN partner to drive digital transformation for 25,000 Nigerian MSMEs
Zoho, a global technology company, has partnered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to expand access to affordable cloud technology for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.
Under the partnership, Zoho will provide wallet credits worth up to ₦20 billion to up to 25,000 eligible MSMEs within the SMEDAN ecosystem.
The initiative brings together SMEDAN’s mandate and nationwide reach in supporting MSME development and Zoho’s portfolio of scalable cloud-based business applications.
The partnership aligns with SMEDAN’s GROW Nigerian strategy, which focuses on business formalisation, access to finance and markets, improved productivity, and digital adoption.
As part of its formalisation efforts, SMEDAN is also working with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to facilitate the free registration of 250,000 businesses, aiming to bring more MSMEs into the formal economy and expand their access to growth opportunities.
Speaking on the partnership, SMEDAN Director-General and Chief Executive Officer Charles Odii said the agency is focused on helping small businesses transition from survival to sustainable growth.
“Our focus at SMEDAN is to ensure that small businesses can move from survival to growth and prosperity. That means helping entrepreneurs formalise, improve productivity, reach new markets and build businesses that can compete,” Odii said.
“Digital capability is now an important part of that journey, and this partnership with Zoho gives thousands of MSMEs within our ecosystem another practical pathway to strengthen how they operate and grow.”
Zoho Nigeria Country Head, Kehinde Ogundare, said the partnership would help reduce barriers preventing MSMEs from adopting technology while providing the support needed to use digital tools effectively.
“MSMEs are fundamental to Nigeria’s economic development, but technology can only deliver its full potential when businesses can access and effectively use it,” Ogundare said.
“Through this partnership with SMEDAN, we are reducing the access barrier to adopting world-class business technology while providing businesses with the training, consultation and support they need to leverage cloud technology to streamline their operations and catapult their growth.”
He said the partnership also reflected Zoho’s “transnational localism” strategy, which combines its global technology expertise with efforts to develop self-sustaining local economic clusters.
“Through this approach, we aim to deepen our contribution to Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and support the development of a more digitally enabled and resilient MSME sector,” he added.
The wallet credits will enable eligible businesses to access any of Zoho’s more than 60 applications, depending on their operational needs.
The available solutions include Zoho Workplace, a business email and collaboration suite; Bigin by Zoho CRM, a customer relationship management platform designed for small businesses; and Zoho Books, a cloud-based accounting platform.
Beyond providing access to technology, Zoho will offer participating MSMEs training sessions, workshops, one-on-one business consultations and ongoing technical support throughout the partnership.
The companies said the programmes would help participating businesses develop the practical digital skills required to integrate technology into their day-to-day operations.
Zoho and SMEDAN will also collaborate on outreach to eligible businesses, programme implementation, and monitoring adoption and impact.
