Zamora Company makes international leadership hires
By Rupert Hohwieler
Licor 43 owner Zamora Company has appointed directors in North and Latin America as it looks to accelerate growth in both markets.
Mike Howard has been appointed director of the company’s North American operations, covering the US and Canada, while André Duarte will head the Latin America cluster as director, spanning South America, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Both Latin and North America are considered priority regions for Zamora Company in its international expansion.
International sales make up more than half (54.5%) of the Madrid-headquartered firm’s business.
CEO Javier Pijoan said: ¨Our international scale requires combining global vision with local execution. The addition of André and Mike brings two leaders with deep industry expertise to accelerate our growth within our ‘One Agile Global Company’ model, a formula that is delivering excellent results.”
‘Leaders with deep industry expertise’
Howard will be based in Dallas and brings more than 25 years of industry experience to Zamora Company.
This includes tenures as president of North America for Stoli Group USA, and as chief commercial officer at Altos Planos, where he led commercial development of Mijenta as the Tequila brand grew its sales by 400% in three years.
Howard has also held senior management roles at distributor Southern Glazer’s.
Zamora Company said his target in North America will be ‘driving growth, optimising go-to-market strategy, and elevating commercial excellence across the entire portfolio’.
Meanwhile, Duarte will be based in São Paulo, Brazil, and has more than 30 years of executive experience in the beverage and spirits sector.
He joins from Brown-Forman, where he held different senior management positions in his 10 years at the American whiskey giant. Other key roles include leading William Grant & Sons’ operations in Brazil.
As Latin America cluster director, he will aim to accelerate growth of the company’s wine and spirits portfolio.
Zamora Company explained that this will focus on consolidating and building on strong performances in Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia, as well as scaling the model to the region’s other key markets and ‘optimising the commercial strategy to ensure sustainable growth across Latin America’.
In 2025, Zamora Company’s net sales fell by 2% from the previous year to €255 million (US$291m).
The company’s best-selling brand is Licor 43, which accounts for 42.5% of total revenue.
The spirits portfolio represented 61% of overall sales in 2025, with other brands including Villa Massa limoncello and Martin Miller’s Gin.
While sales may have been down last year, Zamora Company is making headway on its decarbonisation goals. It is now operating on 82% renewable energy, according to its sixth Conscious Company report.
