Zachary James Joins Ayn Rand's Night of January 16th Off-Broadway The interactive courtroom drama is coming to Theatre Row via Ruth Stage. September 04, 2026 By Logan Culwell-Block Zachary James (Hadestown) has joined the cast of Ruth Stage's upcoming Off-Broadway presentation of Ayn Rand's interactive courtroom drama Night of January 16th, set to begin October 7 at Theatre Row. Opening night will be October 11, with performances continuing through October 18. James, an operatic bass who's also appeared on Broadway in The Addams Family, Coram Boy, and South Pacific, will play attorney Flint, with further casting to be announced. The work, first performed in Los Angeles in 1934, casts audience members as the jury in the trial of Karen Andre, a former secretary accused of murdering her businessman lover. Theo Devaney will direct the production, which will feature scenic and lighting design by Christian Specht and sound design by Tomas Correa. “Zachary is exactly the kind of artist we want working at Ruth Stage,” says company Chairman and Creative Director Matt de Rogatis in a statement. “He has an extraordinary range as an actor and performer, but what excites me most is the depth and fearlessness he brings to the work. Night of January 16th asks its actors and its audience to live inside uncertainty, to question what they believe and why they believe it. Zachary understands that kind of work instinctively, and I’m thrilled to have him joining us as we bring this production to New York. His past work as Hades in Hadestown also makes him an ideal addition to the dark, purgatory-like world we are creating for this production.” Tickets are at RuthStage.org.
