Жители Кэмпбелл-Ривер требуют взимать плату с яхт за использование прибрежных зон

Yachts should pay backcountry fees Published 5:00 am Wednesday, August 12, 2026 Dear Editor, My name is Nick von Poser and my wife Lynda and I are long time Campbell River residents. We just returned from an amazing week long kayaking trip to Desolation Sound. We registered and paid our Backcountry Park fees. We do not mind doing this to support the upkeep and maintenance of the campsites. It is a beautiful area! What really bothers us, is that in Prideaux Haven (a favourite yachting anchorage for years), there were 70 high end yachts in that little bay! There are millions of dollars worth of tourist pleasure craft (mostly American registered) using our park facilities and none of them are required to pay any fees! They were packed into that and adjacent bays side by each like in a crowded RV park. The place smelled like diesel fuel and there was a tideline of soap bubbles as we paddled there. How disgusting that, kayakers, canoeists and paddle boarders are paying to use this spectacular park and the folks that can afford the fancy yachts pay nothing and pollute the bays on top of that! Something needs to be done! Put a big tariff on every yacht that uses the Marine Park anchorage. This would help fund our BC Marine Parks and maybe reduce the pollution! Thank you, Nick and Lynda von Poser
