Коммерческий спутниковый интернет: почему домашние тарифы не подходят для бизнеса

Satellite internet has become a serious option for businesses operating where fibre does not reach or does not hold up. The temptation, especially for smaller operations, is to order a standard kit, mount it, and treat the connectivity problem as solved. That works until the business actually depends on it. The core issue is not that the technology is weak. It is that residential hardware, plan tiers and installation standards were calibrated for a single household, and that calibration comes apart quickly once business workloads are layered on top. The assumption that breaks first A residential setup is optimised for one home. Kinettix, which handles commercial deployments, puts the difference plainly: residential service degrades under multi-user loads, while commercial configurations are engineered for anywhere from ten to over a hundred concurrent users without performance loss. That gap shows up fastest in environments nobody would describe as heavy usage. A twenty-room guesthouse, a clinic running scheduling and imaging, a warehouse with handheld scanners across the floor. Their guidance is that once you pass roughly twenty-five concurrent users, load needs to be distributed across multiple access points or multiple dishes. A single residential terminal has no path to that. What happens during congestion Priority is the part most buyers never think about until it bites. Residential accounts sit behind business-tier traffic when the network is congested, which means service degrades precisely when demand peaks. For a household streaming in the evening, that is an inconvenience. For a restaurant processing payments during the dinner rush, or a retail site closing out a trading day, it is a revenue event. Uptime expectations differ in the same way. Residential service is best-effort with no service level agreement attached, while commercial deployments are designed around availability commitments because the systems depending on them cannot simply wait. The hardware was never the same product This is not only a software or plan distinction. Kinettix notes that commercial deployments typically call for the Flat High Performance dish, which carries a denser antenna array and a wider field of view than the standard residential unit. The company puts residential throughput at 50 to 200 Mbps shared, against 100 to 350 Mbps or more sustained under load on commercial configurations. Those are its figures rather than the operator’s published specifications, so treat them as an installer’s field observation rather than a guaranteed rate. Redundancy is the sharper difference. Residential is a single point of failure by design, whereas commercial setups can support multiple bonded dishes and cellular failover, which matters in any operation where an outage stops work rather than just interrupting a film. Where the installation itself falls short Three things separate a commercial install from a domestic one, and none of them are visible in a photograph of a mounted dish. Mounting is the first. Residential installations are not engineered for structural compliance, while commercial work requires structural review of the roof or wall carrying the load, and mounting that satisfies building code. Commercial properties offer rooftop, parapet, ground-pole and wall options, and the right one depends on roof type and available sky view rather than convenience. Grounding is the second and the most consequential. Residential grounding does not meet commercial electrical or safety codes, and the exposure is real rather than procedural. In the United States, NEC Article 810 requires the cable to be grounded at the building entry point and bonded to the structure’s grounding electrode system, specifically to protect equipment and people from lightning-induced surges. Local codes differ, but a rooftop unit feeding a cable into an occupied building creates the same hazard everywhere. Cable routing is the third. A residential run is short and simple, while commercial installations involve conduit, multi-floor pathways, longer distances, and weatherproofing at every transition point. This is the stage where experienced Starlink installers earn their fee, because a compromised run degrades quietly for months before anyone connects the symptom to the cause. The integration problem A business network is not a flat network. Enterprise environments segment traffic, and a residential setup cannot integrate with VLAN configurations, SD-WAN, or mesh architecture. Static IPs sit in the same category, unavailable on residential tiers but often required for remote access, VPN termination, or point-of-sale systems. A healthcare facility maintaining network segmentation for patient data cannot build that on consumer service, regardless of how fast the connection tests. Monitoring closes the gap. Residential gives you basic statistics in an app, while commercial deployments run centralised monitoring with alerting and performance dashboards, which is the difference between discovering a problem and being told about one. When something goes wrong Support paths diverge sharply. A residential account gets a self-service portal with no escalation route, and troubleshooting is user-initiated with no guaranteed response time. Commercial arrangements carry dedicated account management, defined escalation paths, and response and resolution targets for a single site that may feel like an expensive formality. Across twenty sites, it is the entire proposition, because the problem stops being technical and becomes one of coordination. Kinettix has documented deployments at that scale, including a manufacturer with more than 55 distribution centres and a restaurant and retail chain running hundreds of highway-adjacent locations. Consistency across locations is the real requirement, and it is the same benchmark businesses already apply to terrestrial connections. Much of the case made for fiber carriers rests on holding latency and performance steady across dispersed sites, and a satellite rollout gets judged against that same expectation. In conclusion, the honest test is not whether a residential setup will work. It usually will, for a while, in good conditions, with light load. The test is what happens on the worst day. Peak concurrent users, congestion on the network, weather on the dish, and a payment system that cannot go down. Residential Starlink was built for a household on an ordinary evening. Business environments are defined by their worst hour, and that is the gap professional installation and commercial-tier service are designed to close. FAQ - Can a business just use a residential Starlink plan? It will function, but residential service is optimised for a single household, deprioritised during congestion, and carries no service level agreement. Once several users share it, or once revenue systems depend on it, the limitations become operational rather than theoretical. - How many users can a commercial satellite setup support? Commercial configurations are described as handling ten to over a hundred concurrent users. Above roughly twenty-five, installers generally distribute load across multiple access points or additional dishes rather than relying on a single terminal. - Why does grounding matter so much on a satellite installation? The cable enters the building from an exposed rooftop unit, which creates a path for lightning-induced surges. Commercial codes require grounding at the entry point and bonding to the building’s grounding system to protect both equipment and people. - How long does a commercial installation take? Most commercial installations run four to eight hours, though multi-storey buildings, extended cable runs, or larger facilities take longer. A proper site assessment should produce a time estimate before anyone is dispatched.
