Читатели призывают запретить политические демонстрации на фестивале наследия и требуют освещения причин лесных пожаров

Wednesday's letters: Heritage Fest not the place for politics Edmonton Heritage Festival, started in 1976, is now the world’s largest three-day multicultural event. Returning to Hawrelak Park made this year extra special. There were over 100 cultures represented through 60 pavilions. Each volunteer-run pavilion show cases their culture through food, music and dance. Heritage Festival is absolutely not the place for political demonstrations, whatsoever. It is, and always will be, a place to come and celebrate Canada at its multicultural best. Regan Pinkoski, Sherwood Park Article missed wildfire causes, solutions “A world on fire,” Aug. 10 e-paper, describes the extreme heat, fires and smoke we are currently experiencing in Canada and Europe. The resulting increased costs of food, health care and rebuilding our burned-out homes are not stated, however. And shockingly, “climate change” was not mentioned at all, inarguably the principal cause of the more frequent and intense fires we have been experiencing. The authors also fail to point out the irrefutable connection to the production and burning of fossil fuels. We have known since the 19th century that too much carbon dioxide overheats the planet and changes our climate. The proposed expansions of the oil industry which are endangering our children’s future are therefore unconscionable, especially since we have most of the solutions at hand, including widespread electrification with renewables and sustainable building practices. The world may be on fire, but good investigative journalism should describe the causes and solutions for the crisis we are experiencing.
