Новая сатирическая драма HBO «War» с Домиником Вестом претендует на преемственность «Succession»

More than three years after Succession completed its run on HBO, a new and similarly prestigious corporate satire is arriving on the network to take its crown. This star-studded series will premiere on October 1, introducing us to the acrimonious divorce case between tech mogul Morgan Henderson and his wife. The creation of Lupin and Hijack mastermind George Kay, War looks set to be a fast-talking, slickly-produced, darkly satirical comedy-drama fronted by British A-listers Dominic West and Sienna Miller. Although ostensibly within TV’s legal genre, it shares obvious parallels with Jesse Armstrong’s seminal masterpiece about familial betrayal, abhorrent personal greed, and the moral decadence of the super-wealthy. Succession is widely considered one of the best HBO shows ever produced, so its conclusion in May 2023 left a gaping hole in the broadcaster’s schedule of new releases. While various other recent series have tried to fill the void, War has a better chance than all of them put together. It’s primed to be the latest in a long line of highly acclaimed shows about families in turmoil to be released by HBO. Following in the footsteps of the Sopranos, the Fishers, and the Lannisters and Starks as well as the Roys, Morgan Henderson and Carla Duval have the weight of TV history on their shoulders. War Is HBO’s Major New Prestige Series For Fall 2026 If Harry Potter season 1 begins a new era for HBO, then War is likely to play a major part in that era. Alongside lead actors Dominic West and Sienna Miller, this new series stars Pip Torrens, Celia Imrie, and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed in an ensemble cast dominated by established British acting talent. The story of rival top-level London law firms caught up in an explosive legal battle between a tech billionaire and his movie-star wife, War is styled as a biting satire on the corporate side of celebrity scandal, with nods in the direction of real-life divorce cases involving the likes of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. It will feature legal-procedural elements, but ultimately goes beyond the bounds of more typical genre television, in a manner comparable with West’s previous HBO project The Wire. Blending high-stakes drama with a skewering depiction of society’s upper echelons, War will be as much about Wall Street and Silicon Valley as the Royal Courts of Justice. More than any other TV release over the past three years, the show traces its small-screen lineage to the story of Logan Roy and his children. In other words, War is to marital strife what Succession is to family inheritance. HBO Has Earmarked War To Be The Next Succession It’s clear that HBO is already banking a lot on its new legal drama ultimately becoming the true heir to Succession. Marisa Tomei has already been cast for War season 2, which is being filmed as we speak. The broadcaster has every reason to think this upcoming prestige release has what it takes to justify comparisons with its forerunner, too. Besides both shows featuring Pip Torrens among their respective casts, they’re each a prime example of modern-day TV satire, intricately constructed by a small-screen auteur hailing from England. Like Succession, War aims to shine an unflattering light on the billionaire class under the guise of a family drama, populated by several of the UK’s best screen performers. Although other HBO series such as Industry and The White Lotus share certain things in common, none of them strike its tonal balance between pitch-black satire, immersive social realism, and vicious intrafamilial conflict. On the other hand, War appears set up to strike precisely this balance, albeit from a slightly different angle. It certainly has the personnel to harbor lofty aspirations, even if few TV series in history are a match for Succession’s flawless four-season run. In any case, fans of the Roy family’s story should tune in from the start of October 2026, to see how War fares as its successor. - Network - HBO Max - Directors - Ben Taylor Cast - Dominic WestMorgan Henderson - Carla Duval - Phoebe FoxSerena Byrne - James McArdleNicholas Taylor - Creator(s) - George Kay
