В Эстес-парке зафиксирован рекордный приток туристов из других штатов и рост трафика на ключевых дорогах

The share of out-of-state visitors to Estes Park in July increased exponentially over July of 2025, according to numbers compiled by Visit Estes, the town’s tourism marketing organization. Visit Estes reported that out-of-state visitors accounted for 77% of all spending in Estes Park during July, and 83% of visitors to Estes Park came from outside Colorado during the same month, an increase of seven points from the 76% share of out-of-state visitors in July 2025. Papae Litchfield, the public relations and advocacy manager for Visit Estes, said that targeted marketing to domestic markets outside Colorado and the recent rise in the popularity of road trip travel contributed to the rise, but she credited a mix of factors rather than any single one. “The Rooftop Rodeo gave us a real boost in out-of-state visitation alongside stronger rates and occupancy,” she said. “We’re also continuing to benefit from our accessibility — Estes Park is an easy drive for Front Range visitors, and Denver remains our top in-state market, so that proximity keeps paying off even as we grow out-of-state reach.” Visit Estes estimates that visitors to Estes Park stayed an average of nearly three and a half nights in July, and they spent an average of $104 per day, per visitor. That number encapsulates everything from accommodations to food and beverage, retail, arts and entertainment, attractions, gas and service stations, transportation, and outdoor recreation and sports. Visit Estes’ CEO Sarah Leonard said their projections indicate that the momentum of visitors to the town isn’t slowing down anytime soon. “August occupancy is trending up across Estes Park, and our next 90-day forecast has occupancy up 9.2 points and (revenue per available room) climbing 35.6% compared to this time last year,” she said. “That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident. Community and special events have become growing pillars of how we market and welcome travelers throughout the spring and summer, giving visitors a reason to come — and come back.” How many, exactly? If you have walked down Estes Park’s Elkhorn Avenue on a summer afternoon, waited in line at a restaurant or searched for a parking space downtown, you may have wondered: just how many people are in this town? Unfortunately, there is no single number that can answer that question. But a collection of population, tourism, traffic and visitation statistics offers some clues, and suggests that the number of people in the Estes Valley on a typical summer day can far exceed the town’s year-round population. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the population of the town of Estes Park at 5,780. But local public safety and service agencies, such as Estes Valley Fire Protection District, use a broader estimate of about 11,500 year-round residents throughout the Estes Valley. During the summer, those numbers are supplemented by second homeowners, seasonal workers and visitors. Larimer County estimates that between 9,000 and 12,000 second homeowners, who occupy about 3,000 homes, spend at least some time in the Estes Valley during the peak season. Another 1,500 or more seasonal workers spend the summer in Estes Park, many participating in the U.S. State Department’s J-1 Summer Work Travel program or working at YMCA of the Rockies. Rocky Mountain National Park reported nearly 640,000 recreational visits in June, an average of about 21,000 visits per day. The National Park Service estimates that approximately 732,000 recreational visits were made to the park in July, or almost 24,000 per day. Not every park visitor spends the night in Estes Park, and not every park visitor necessarily spends time in town. But as the primary gateway community to the park, Estes Park receives a significant portion of that visitor traffic. Put those numbers together and it is possible to envision more than 45,000 people in the Estes Valley on a busy summer day. Town services show growth Indicators compiled by the town show just how much traffic moves through the community during the summer, and also suggest that visitors are moving around town differently. Red Route Shuttle (the town’s visitor shuttle) showed that ridership increased by 2,196 riders from the previous year in June to a total of 15,932 riders for that month. Traffic counts showed a significant increase on U.S. 34 in June. Although 10 days are missing from the June 2025 data, the June 2026 count on U.S. 34 was 54% higher with 237,268 vehicles traveling in both directions. Traffic on U.S. 36 decreased, year-over-year, by 3% to 317,144 in June. The number of people coming to Estes Park also is reflected, to some degree, in the calls received by local emergency services. Estes Park dispatch recorded 189 emergency medical calls in June 2026, compared with 151 in June 2025, an increase of 25.17%, and fire calls increased from 101 to 105, or 3.96%. Law enforcement calls, however, declined significantly, from 1,797 in June 2025 to 1,477 in June 2026, a decrease of 17.81% Growing the customer base For local businesses that depend on tourism, the statistics provide only part of the picture. Reed Woodford, owner of KMAC Guides, said the company does not routinely track where its customers live, making it difficult to provide a precise breakdown between Colorado residents and visitors from elsewhere. Anecdotally, however, Woodford said he believes the number of Colorado customers to his business has grown during the past couple of summers, and those customers include a mix of both beginners and experienced climbers. That mix, he said, is important to the future of the business because today’s beginner can become tomorrow’s returning customer. “That’s how we grow,” Woodford said, “by turning those first-timers into more experienced climbers that want to come back again and again to learn more skills.” The same pattern can be seen across the Estes Valley. First-time visitors come to Estes Park for a day in Rocky Mountain National Park, a weekend getaway, a climbing trip or a summer vacation. Some stay for a few hours; others spend several nights. Some come from Colorado, while an increasing share come from other states or countries. For local businesses, the hope is that visitors enjoy their time in town enough to come back. The numbers suggest that, for many of them, that is exactly what is happening.l
