Шоу Virgin Island на Channel 4 отменено после двух сезонов

Channel 4’s Virgin Island is reportedly facing the axe after just two series. The controversial programme sees 12 strangers who have never had sex put together in close quarters to explore the idea of intimacy, with the third season scheduled to start filming this summer. However, according to The Sun, the plug has been pulled on the show, with staff told a third series wouldn’t be going ahead. One insider told the newspaper: “Word spread it was being halted indefinitely. No reason was given and it’s had good ratings.” The TV source added that the employees have been speculating the decision about Virgin Island may have been made because of the scandal involving another Channel 4 show - Married at First Sight UK. Earlier this year, two women who previously appeared on MAFS accused their on-screen husbands of rape, and a third made a sexual misconduct allegation - with the claims, which were denied, prompting an external welfare review. The insider added to The Sun: “Everyone thinks it’s because Channel 4’s still reeling about MAFS. After all, both are highly sexual shows involving the public.” And Ellen, a former Virgin Island contestant, hit headlines recently when she said that many of the participants on the show were guilty of breaking the “no visiting” rule by sneaking into each other’s tents. Channel 4 responded to The Sun’s report but refused to confirm whether or not they had been advised to halt production on Virgin Island due to the review that the MAFS UK allegations had sparked. A spokeswoman explained: “As has been widely reported, recruitment for our new Director of Programmes is still underway. It is only right that outstanding commissioning decisions about big returning series be made once the full team is in place. “Virgin Island series 3 has not yet been recommissioned because, as has been widely reported, recruitment for our new Director of Programmes is still underway. “It is only right that outstanding commissioning decisions about big returning series be made once the full team is in place.”
