The six awards recognize excellence in Canadian books for young people across categories including poetry, picture books, non-fiction, middle-grade and young adult fiction, graphic novels and historical fiction. Winners will be announced Oct. 26 at an in-person event at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Toronto. The event will also be livestreamed. A total of $46,500 in prize money will be awarded across the six categories. This year’s list represents 18 publisher imprints and 46 authors, illustrators and translators from across Canada. “The 2026 finalists showcase excellence across genres and formats,” said Stephanie Wells, executive director of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre. “They are stories of friendship, family, curiosity, adventure, humour, compassion, and the fantastical — truly something for every reader.” Tickets for the awards event are expected to go on sale in mid-September.
