Комментатор Виктор Рохас сообщил о диагнозе рака простаты и планах на операцию

Victor Rojas has been a fixture in baseball for decades, as both an announcer and now a head coach. But the 58-year-old revealed this week that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer roughly a week prior. He attributed the diagnosis to routine checkups and a PSA screening that identified the cancer at an early stage, which he credits with substantially improving his prognosis. His plan going forward involves surgery in the near future to remove the prostate entirely, followed by a recovery period intended to restore his health ahead of the upcoming season. That assignment followed college baseball duties in June, when he called the Lawrence Regional alongside Connor Vanhanen before advancing to the Super Regionals with Gregg Olson. The son of MLB All-Star and former Angels manager Cookie Rojas, Victor pitched within the Angels organization before transitioning into coaching with the Florida Marlins in 1993. His broadcasting career originated as the radio and television announcer for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League, before he assumed a role with MLB Radio. He made his major league broadcasting debut in the Arizona Diamondbacks’ radio booth in 2003, then spent five years calling games for the Texas Rangers before joining the Angels in 2010, where he forged a partnership with Mark Gubicza, widely regarded as one of the league’s most underrated broadcasting duos, during their run together. Rojas spent 11 seasons as the television voice of the Los Angeles Angels before stepping down in January 2021.
