Полиция Виктории ищет свидетелей по серии актов вандализма с граффити на Королевском театре

Victoria Police continue to investigate a string of “repeated graffiti incidents,” including one sprawling message on the side of the Royal Theatre that’s estimated to cost $10,000 in restoration work. Police are asking people, businesses and property owners to contact VicPD if they find any graffiti that includes the tags “JOKE,” “VANIK” or “FORLO.” “Information about additional incidents could help police further their investigation,” said Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers in a social media post Monday. Anyone with information or who spots these tags is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or online. Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers issued the callout for information about three weeks after graffiti was sprayed on an upper section of the Royal Theatre. The theatre, built in 1913, is currently undergoing a restoration project and organizers say the cost to repair the historic bricks is estimated to be at least $10,000. At the time, VicPD told CHEK News it was investigating the graffiti as a case of mischief over $5,000. In such cases, people who are convicted could see a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Jeff Bray, CEO of the Downtown Victoria Business Association, also said at the time that graffiti was a growing issue in the region. “Crime Stoppers a few years ago estimated the cost of graffiti abatement was over $1 million in the CRD. When businesses are spending $1 million to deal with it, guess who ends up paying for it? The consumer,” Bray said. Watch the Aug. 13 story below: — With files from CHEK’s Mary Griffin
