Компания VEGA внедрила высокоточные радарные датчики для контроля уровня зерна на пивоварнях ЮАР

VEGA delivers accurate silo level measurement for South African breweries With its radar sensors and vibrating switches, VEGA is addressing one of brewing’s most overlooked operational challenges: accurate silo level measurement. LONG before fermentation begins, a brewery’s success is already being shaped in the silo. Barley storage directly affects efficiency, quality and worker safety, making reliable and accurate level measurement essential for South Africa’s growing brewing sector. The stakes are significant. South Africa’s beer market, valued at around USD 3.5 billion, is projected to reach USD 6 billion by 2030, contributing an estimated R71 billion to the economy and supporting close to 249 000 jobs across agriculture, manufacturing and the logistics sector. Brewers know that silo storage presents its own set of challenges. Filling generates dust that undermines sensor accuracy and creates safety hazards, while barley forms a shifting cone shape that makes accurate level readings difficult. Without reliable data, breweries risk overfilling, causing spillage and over-pressurisation, or underfilling, which wastes capacity and disrupts production. VEGA’s instrumentation addresses this directly. The VEGAPULS 6X radar sensor delivers continuous, non-contact level measurement unaffected by dust, with no wear or clogging and a tightly focused antenna suited to tall or complex silo geometries. At the top of the fill zone, the VEGAVIB 63 vibrating rod switch prevents overfill and spillage, resisting buildup even with aerated or low-density barley. At the base, the VEGAVIB 61 provides low-level protection against complete draw-down, with a switching point that stays consistent across barley batches, with no recalibration required. Together, these tools deliver measurable results: maximised silo capacity, reduced spillage and grain loss, improved workplace safety, and significantly less manual maintenance. Because the systems are straightforward to configure and hold performance steady across varying conditions, breweries can scale production without sacrificing predictability. For brewers of every size, the barley silo plays a large role in performance and profitability. By combining VEGAPULS 6X radar with VEGAVIB 63 and VEGAVIB 61 vibrating switches, brewers gain the accuracy and reliability needed to run lean, safer operations. A win not just for individual breweries, but for the entire value chain that beer supports.
