Vardhaan Puri Believes Cinema Has Power To Bring Our Heroes & Their Stories To Life
As India celebrates its freedom and reflects on the journey of the nation, actor Vardhaan Puri shares what patriotism means to him, recalls cherished childhood memories and speaks about the role cinema can play in keeping the country's history and stories alive. For Vardhaan, the idea of freedom is deeply personal and rooted in a strong sense of gratitude and pride.
"Freedom, for me, is about being able to breathe and live in a free country. I am deeply patriotic and feel incredibly proud of how far India has come and continues to grow across every field." Reflecting on his favourite childhood memories, Vardhaan shares, "My favourite childhood memories are from school, getting dressed in that crisp white uniform, marching with my classmates and proudly holding a paper tiranga in my hand. We did not fully understand the significance of the occasion back then, but we knew we were celebrating something special. That feeling of pride and love for our country has stayed with me."
Talking about cinema's influence on how generations perceive the country, Vardhaan believes filmmakers have an important responsibility, especially when it comes to introducing India's history to younger audiences.
"I feel filmmakers have a very important responsibility, especially towards the younger generation. There are so many stories from our freedom struggle and our history that need to be told and remembered. Cinema has the power to bring these stories and our heroes to life in a way that people can connect with. I think it can help the youth understand our history, feel proud of our country and appreciate our culture even more."
Vardhaan also reveals that he draws inspiration from actors and filmmakers who have brought stories connected to India's history to the screen.
"I really look up to Sunny Deol uncle and the way he has been part of films that tell stories connected to our history and our journey as a nation. I'm really looking forward to watching Batwara 1947. As an actor, I would love to play a freedom fighter or someone who has done something significant for our country. I'm definitely manifesting a role like that someday."
For Vardhaan, telling the stories of those who remain lesser known is equally important.
"It is very important for cinema to tell the stories of our unsung heroes. How else will the younger generation know about their sacrifices and everything they did for our country? We are able to live in a free India because of their courage and sacrifices. Telling their stories is also a way of remembering them and showing our gratitude."
Vardhaan's thoughts underline the importance of remembering not just the freedom we enjoy today, but also the courage and sacrifices that made it possible. His desire to bring stories of freedom fighters and unsung heroes to the screen reflects his belief that cinema can keep history alive while inspiring the next generation to understand, respect and take pride in the country's journey.
