UWSP opens new center for non-traditional students STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -A new center for non-traditional students at UW-Stevens Point is now open as students return to campus for the fall semester. A non-traditional student can be an adult learner who is working full time, raising kids, a veteran or a student who does not live on campus. Before this year, those students did not have an official place to connect with other non-traditional students. Now they have their own space where they can study, meet others like them and hold events. The space is inside the Dreyfus University Center and is open now. A non-traditional student coordinator is located next door, giving them extra support. Staff say space helps students succeed “This allows us to make sure we’re providing that support to make sure that they’re graduating in a timely manner and getting kind of to reach their goals when they want to,” said Emily Fabry, non-traditional student center coordinator. The center has computers, a color printer, a microwave, a mini-fridge and more. Designed for non-traditional students, open to all The space is open and available for any student to use. It is designed for non-traditional students, but everyone is welcome. Kevin Wald is a third-year non-traditional student majoring in psychology. He has already used the room and said it is nice to have a space where he can connect with other students who are like him. “To have one space where you all can relate to each other, to meet each other, to find out ideas about how to navigate school is good,” said Wald, a non-traditional student. Hours and grand opening The new center is located in the lower level of the Dreyfus University Center. It is open from 7:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. Staff will host a grand opening celebrating the space next Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Click here to download the WSAW news app or WSAW First Alert weather app. Click here to submit a news tip or story idea.
