Upcoming events to check out in Rock County MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - As families prepare for a new schedule with kids heading back to school, there is still plenty of fun to be had. Christine Rebout with the Janesville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau highlights some fun activities to check out in Rock County. Rock River Thresheree The Rock River Thresheree is coming up on Labor Day Weekend. “It’s really a living history festival,” Rebout said. “You have everything from working steam engines, saw mills, and you can ride the cannonball train.” The event runs from Sept. 4 to Sept. 7 at Thresherman’s Park in Edgerton, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art Events throughout Janesville Art Infusion will be taking place from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6. There will be a sidewalk chalk art competition for adults and kids of all skill levels with cash prizes. Three new murals are going to be put up at Great Harvest Bakery & Cafe, the Janesville Sports Complex and at the Woodman’s Center and Uptown Janesville Mall. Finally, a tattoo competition will be happening from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6 that will be decided by a people’s choice award. Tom Petty Tribute Band A Tom Petty Tribute Band will be playing at the Janesville Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. Experience the timeless music of a legendary rocker, a Wisconsin-based tribute band called Petty Things delivers an authentic, high-energy performance that captures the spirit, sound and heart of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Fisk Jubilee Singers and Ko-Thi Dance Company Also at the Janesville Performing Arts Center, the Grammy award-winning Fisk Jubilee Singers of Fisk University in Tennessee will perform. The a cappella ensemble performs spirituals sung by slaves prior to the Civil War. The Ko-Thi Dance Company is a beacon of African and Caribbean dance traditions that started in 1969. “This will sell out so be sure to get your tickets ahead of time,” Rebout said. The performance will be happening on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. For more information or events, head to the Janesville Area Convention center website.
