A new temporary exhibit at the Swift Current Museum is highlighting the history and contributions of Ukrainians in Canada. Crystal Ljunggren, education coordinator, said Canada: Here We Are looks at how Ukrainian Canadians have made lives for themselves and their families across the country. “We have some real good visual billboards and some really great information here in our temporary gallery. It highlights areas of the Ukrainian culture, the Ukrainians, how they have struggled through Canada, through the Prairies especially, and have built a life for themselves.” The exhibit explores Ukrainian culture and the experiences of Ukrainian families who settled across the Prairies since the early settler days. Cultural histories Ljunggren said the display also highlights the cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations. “I really enjoy all of the different patterns that the Ukrainian culture does have, especially the pysanky eggs.” She said Ukrainian heritage can be found throughout Saskatchewan, including in the Swift Current area. “It does not just stem from a small little area in Canada. The display also includes information about Ukrainian food and other aspects of the culture. “You can read over in that area and it will really discuss a bunch of different meals. And it's just a really nicely done exhibit.” The temporary exhibit will remain on display until the end of September.
