Студенты Университета Белиза требуют пересмотра использования LockDown Browser из-за технических сбоев и стресса

UB Students Raise Red Flags Over LockDown Browser Some University of Belize (UB) students are raising concerns about the use of LockDown Browser for online quizzes and examinations, saying delays during the software’s launch and verification process can eat into the limited time they have to complete assessments. An online student alleged that the software can freeze, crash, or fail to launch properly, potentially leaving students with less time to complete timed assessments. The student also raised concerns about the potential academic and financial consequences if technical problems affect students’ grades. The National Student Union of Belize (NSUB) says it has also received complaints from UB students about the software. NSUB President Tomas Serrut says the Union has been hearing from students about the issue. “I would say at the moment that I’ve actually reached out, it’s been less than 20. However, most of them have indicated as well that they have a lot of friends and classmates. So the number is a lot higher,” Serrut said. According to Serrut, the main concern raised by students is the amount of time available to complete certain assessments. He says the issue has also contributed to anxiety and stress among some students. “It’s caused them a lot of anxiety more so and more so stress in completing them,” he said. The university told News 5 that it has not received any formal complaints regarding the use of LockDown Browser. Serrut says some students have also raised concerns about privacy and how much visibility the software may give the university into activity on their personal devices. He says, however, that those concerns should be considered alongside the university’s responsibility to protect academic integrity during online assessments. “I think that we need to look at modern solutions and also respect the privacy of students. But at the same time, we need to understand that we live in a digital age, so the concerns that the administration may have could be very well valid because there’s a lot of cheating that goes on as well in these institutions between students,” Serrut said. Serrut says the NSUB believes the concerns warrant an open discussion between students and the university. “I think it’s important that we have open discussions about the way students are being educated and certain precautions, which we also understand, must be taken in this growing digital world,” he said.
