Два ветерана Индианы восстанавливаются после исторического наводнения, потеряв имущество и документы

Two veterans face financial, emotional toll after Indiana flood METAMORA, Ind. (WXIX) - Two veterans who live blocks away from each other in Metamora, Indiana, are trying to pick up the pieces following historic flooding in the region. Frank Black is a veteran and local musician who turned his home into a studio and stage, holding lessons and concerts for the community. “It’s a mess. It looks like a garbage dump,” Black said. He had 15 minutes to get out of his home Thursday before rising floodwaters overtook it. “We got all the guitars. A lot of them are up high. We got the speakers up off the floor,” Black said. His instruments appear to be okay, but the electrical damage is his biggest concern now. Neighbor faced greater losses A couple of streets away, disabled Army veteran Steven Nobbe faced more significant damage. “I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from being overseas and unfortunately this is another traumatic event,” Nobbe said. “All of my documents from my military service, all ten years, gone.” Nobbe’s home took on significant water that damaged floors and walls. He says he’s concerned about the impact on his health and others. “I think having something like this happen is maybe worse than all the houses burning because now we risk going back into them and having respiratory issues. I worry about some of my neighbors,” he said. For the two veterans, losses are estimated in the thousands. “What are you going to do? You just have to start over, bite your tongue and keep going,” Black said. Community and state response Metamora Fire Chief John Arcaro said 70% of businesses and homes in the village were impacted by the flooding, but no injuries were reported. Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has signed a disaster emergency declaration, which is the first step toward federal aid. A GoFundMe has been set up to help Nobbe rebuild.
