Представительницы Университета Вирджинии выступят на чемпионате мира по батутольному спорту в Ливерпуле

Two UVA featured twirlers will be competing at world championships in Liverpool, England CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -Two University of Virginia featured twirlers will spend two weeks in Liverpool next summer, competing for Team USA in baton twirling. Madison Salber and Ivorie Shelton qualified for Team USA in June after competing in Iowa. “I was obviously very excited and a little bit in shock...It’s something that I’ve always wanted to achieve ever since I was little and started twirling,” Salber said. Salber will compete in the World Technical Baton Twirling Championship. She said her time at UVA has helped her prepare. “This is my fifth season now, and I’m able to perform in front of a lot of people and do well under pressure, so I feel ready to compete at worlds.” This will be Shelton’s fourth time competing at worlds. She will compete in the World Nations Cup. “My first year was with my team in Liverpool, England, then I went a second time in Sweden, and then I went a third time in Italy,” Shelton said. Salber and Shelton both said that this is a great opportunity, and that they hope it can push others to keep going. “I hope it inspires others to just set goals and go after their dreams, even if they feel a little out of reach,” Salber said. “I just want to inspire others just to let them know that working hard and having dedication and discipline can really just help you reach your goals, even though it gets difficult, just push for the things that you love,” Shelton said. The twirlers will perform at the next UVA football game on September 11 against Norfolk State. Do you have a story idea? Send us your news tip here. Copyright 2026 WVIR. All rights reserved.
