Now, they have dropped another taster of the new LP with the heartfelt single ‘Supersweetness’, which sees frontman Sam McTrusty enlist the help of his young daughters on backing vocals. Speaking about the track, the singer shared: “Every song is a love song really, but this one is about the bittersweet feeling of adoring my children until the point where it makes me feel ill.” He also added that it was inspired by that overwhelming feeling of “loving something so much that it actually hurts”. Recommended As for the album itself, ‘Separation From The Animals’ marks the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Meltdown’ and is the first time that all four founding members have recorded together on a Twin Atlantic record for years. It is set to see them at their most raw and exposed, and was written following McTrusty starting a new life in Toronto with wife and two kids. “I’m from a family that’s fairly divided, so I’ve always been passed about from when I was six-months- old. It’s all I’ve ever known,” he said, adding that his life’s trauma has informed all of his songs in one way or another. “As you grow up, you start to view life through a different lens – especially the whole struggle of going from boy to man. “My experience of that is particularly painful, emotional and confusing. But because it seemed normal at the time, it didn’t really hit me until I found my tribe, my people, my band. My entire adult life is meant to have been looking ahead but my personal life is always looking back. That baggage is basically what the whole band is about.” He continued: “This is what we’ve always been but with the veil lifted… I hope people hear the record and it inspires them to do that and be more honest with themselves.” The ‘Separation From The Animals’ tracklist is: ‘Your, The End’ ‘In Your Eyes’ ‘I’m Not Coming Home’ ‘Don’t Quit It’ ‘Strong’ ‘The Risk Of Love Is Always Loss’ ‘Unless It Hurts’ ‘Confidant’ ‘Save Your Breath’ ‘Supersweetness’ ‘Lost’ ‘Feel It All’ Visit here for a list of upcoming tour dates and tickets. Back in 2023, Twin Atlantic spoke to NME about their single ‘Stuck In A Car With You’ and their “unhinged guitar record”. “With this record, we wanted to make something for the fans, and the kids who first started this band,” McTrusty explained. “‘Stuck In A Car With You’ is a no-nonsense, fast-paced rock song that shines a spotlight on the emotion behind it.” He continued: “Since we released [2011’s] ‘Free’ and [2009’s] ‘Vivarium’, fans have basically been asking us to make those albums again. We’ve never been that excited by revisiting the past, but enough time has passed that it felt interesting to do.”
