Библиотека Шетлера приглашает на празднование шотландской культуры и мини-игры хайлендеров

Travel to Scotland with your local Library Published 10:00 am Thursday, September 3, 2026 September is here! That means that Alberta Culture Days is also here! The Stettler Public Library is so excited to be part of this wonderful event with the Town of Stettler, County of Stettler, Stettler Town and Country Museum, and Stettler Regional Board of Trade again. There are so many incredible events that will allow us to celebrate the wonders of Scotland! Put Sept. 12 on your calendar to join in the fun at the Town and Country Museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be crafts, displays, music, presentations, and food that will entertain everyone. But what I want to highlight is Stettler’s version of the Highland Games, just a mini version. Gather a clan together, whether it be your co-workers, family members, friends, or organizations, and sign up to participate in the Mini Highland Games. This event will be open to all ages and will include some of the most iconic Scottish events around. There will be a “caber” toss, tug of war, welly wanging, “haggis” hurling, farmer’s dash, and finally, sheaf toss. Buttons, ribbons, and bragging rights go to the top Clans in each division. Each Clan should have four to six members, and you do have time to search out those clan members. Registration deadline is Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. Register at www.stettlerboardoftrade.com/projects/alberta-culture-days. That is not the only Scottish event that the library is involved in. The spear thistle is Scotland’s national flower, and we will be celebrating that on Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Create a one-of-a-kind pendant or keychain inspired by this flower. This is part of Culture Days, so you must pre-register at stettlerboardoftrade.com/projects/alberta-culture-days. Spots are limited, so register today. Something Cool After School (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.) is also getting in on the Scottish fun on Sept. 8 and 10. You can’t think of Scotland without thinking of bagpipes, and that is what the kids are going to make on Sept. 8: their own set of bagpipes. Then on Sept. 10, the kids will be waving the Scottish flag after they create their own decoupage version. This is for ages 6 and up and is entirely drop-in. Don’t forget that the library’s other regular programs are continuing or making their fall comeback in September. Copies of Novel Bites’ next read, Bad Cree, by Jessica Johns are still available. Bad Cree is a gripping debut that is haunting and fierce, an ode to female relationships and the strength found in kinship. Then join us at Boston Pizza on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. for a great meal and lively discussion. Call the Library to register. Please note that attendees cover their own meal cost. Film Circuit at the Library returns on Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. for At the Place of Ghosts. Siblings Mise’l and Antle were close as children, but trauma from their upbringing has caused them to drift apart as adults. When they are both haunted by a malevolent spirit of bones and rot, the siblings are forced to reunite. Our mini concession will be open, and the popcorn will be buttery and hot. Donations gratefully accepted. That is just a taste of what the Stettler Public Library has in store for you. Call the Library at 403-742-2292 for any inquiries; check out our website at www.stettlerpubliclibrary.ca; and follow us on Facebook. See you soon!
