Some, who declared the burger was their favourite, couldn't quite believe that I'd never tried the delicacy from the fast food outlet, while others admitted they preferred getting Chicken McNuggets or Chicken Selects instead. However, after trying and really enjoying the Big Mac sauce pot that was released as part of the 2026 World Cup special menu, I was intrigued by what the burger would taste like. The only reason I'd never tried the burger was because I didn't know if I would like the sauce, as I'm not keen on mayonnaise - but with that worry out of the way, there was no need to wait any longer. The Big Mac was first released at a single franchise in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, before being rolled out across the US. The sandwich originally cost $0.45 to compete with other burger chains in the area and ended up being released in the UK in 1974. The hamburger features a three-slice sesame-seed bun, two beef patties, one slice of cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles, minced onions, and "special sauce". I ordered the World Cup special Big Mac meal, which came with its own plastic Thierry Henry cup - nothing on the glass Coca-Cola bottles from a decade ago - and I'll be honest, It was not love at first sight. After seeing the burger for years and years on posters, billboards, and in TV adverts, I always saw it as this towering burger filled with glory. But to see the burger didn't even use quarter pounder patties and just the same ones served on a cheese burger, I was disappointed. The burger itself was very fresh, and the sauce was a great combination with the salad and soft sesame bun, but I just couldn't get past the size of it. Also, after trying the Big Mac dip with Chicken Selects, I couldn't help but think it tasted much better on a Chicken McCrispy rather than a beef burger. Overall, I would rate the burger an average six out of ten, I think there are much better items on the menu that are better value for money, but if the mood strikes, I would get one again.
