Документальный фильм Тома де Соузы «Долгий путь домой» получил грант в 500 тысяч долларов

Tom de Souza’s The Long Road Home is the inaugural recipient of Screenwest’s West Coast Visions Documentary initiative, receiving up to $500,000 in production funding. Set to enter production later this year, The Long Road Home follows de Souza’s own life, from a background of addiction and teenage crime through a multi-year journey around Indonesia, in search of transformation that ultimately leads back to himself. The filmmaking team includes Western Australian producer Nick Calpakdjian and impact producer Amelia Hapsari, with Jamie Holt of Garage Entertainment and Adam Shand attached as executive producers. The Long Road Home is a Scenic Route TV production, with principal production funding from Screenwest, Lotterywest, and Screen Australia. Garage Entertainment / Madman Entertainment will distribute the film locally. Designed to uncover, inspire and develop talented Western Australian filmmaking teams with a distinctive vision, West Coast Visions Documentary builds on Screenwest’s West Coast Visions scripted feature film program, which has supported 14 Western Australian feature films since 2005. De Souza said he was “absolutely stoked and honoured” to receive the funding. “Walking your own creative path is a road lined with risk and self-doubt, and it’s a huge green light of affirmation to know that committing to who I truly am is finally paying off,” he said. Calpakdjian said the film represented a long-held ambition. “I’ve always wanted to produce films that build cultural connections between Australia and our neighbours in Southeast Asia, particularly between my home of Western Australia and Indonesia,” he said. “The Long Road Home embodies that vision, and we’re thrilled that Screenwest has recognised the project’s potential through its support of the West Coast Visions program.” Screenwest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall said the initiative showcased the magnitude of talent in Western Australia. “Congratulations to our inaugural West Coast Visions Documentary recipient, whose cinematic, first-person documentary blends raw adventure with a reflective homecoming to WA,” she said.
