В 1901 году неизвестный выстрелил в сотрудника экспресс-службы, ищущего земельный участок

Today in History revisits the August 27, 1901 edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story on Frank Neptune being shot in the arm near Thief River Falls while looking for land claims. He escaped by boat for medical help, unsure if the shooter mistook him for a deer or a claim jumper. CURIOUS SHOOTING. There are some careless marksmen loose in the country about Thief River or else some man of criminal tendencies should be investigated by the authorities up that way. ADVERTISEMENT On Saturday, August 24, 1901, while Frank Neptune, who has been connected with the Great Northern express business at Crookston, was walking through the brush country north of Thief River Falls, a shot from a rifle was fired by an unknown party, the ball entering Mr. Neptune’s right arm between the elbow and the shoulder. Mr. Neptune was accompanied on the trip be John McNichols, who assisted him in getting to the river, where they secured a boat, came to Thief River Falls and had the ball extracted and the wound dressed. Neptune and McNichols were looking over the country with a view to locating a claim. They are in doubt as to whether the shot was accidental, or whether it was fired by some one who mistook Neptune for a deer, or whether it was the work of some one who mistook the party for intending claim jumpers.
