В Фэрго выявили неисправности в системе тревожных сирен после неудачных тестов

On this day in 1987, Fargo officials continued testing the city’s emergency sirens after several failed during a tornado warning, finding some still worked erratically or not at all. Here is the complete story as it appeared in the paper that day: ADVERTISEMENT Fargo sirens still ailing All of Fargo’s emergency warning sirens issued alarms when the system was experimentally activated Wednesday morning, but the test was not a resounding success. Five of the 13 sirens failed an earlier test in August which was prompted by the fact several sirens failed to sound during a tornado warning on the 17th. While the sirens were unanimous in sounding Wednesday when Fargo police activated them, some did so erratically, and were slow in winding up, Fargo Police Lt. Ken Graalum said. Also, when tested individually some did not work. Graalum, who along with city engineers is evaluating the emergency warning system for review by city officials, noted that in addition to hesitant sirens, he is worried that the radio signal which activates them may be drowned out during an electrical storm when they are most likely to be needed. One way of avoiding that problem may be to activate the system a number of times to increase the chance that the signal is not garbled by bursts of static given off by electrical discharges, he said.
