Хараре возглавил рейтинг самых безопасных городов Южной Африки в 2026 году по данным Numbeo

The safest cities in Southern Africa in 2026 These Southern African cities stand out for their higher safety scores, offering a look at the region’s safest urban destinations in 2026. Southern Africa is home to some of the continent’s busiest and fastest-growing cities, but concerns over crime and personal safety remain an important consideration for residents, tourists and people planning to relocate. However, the latest data from Numbeo shows that safety levels vary significantly between cities, with some recording considerably better safety scores than others. Numbeo’s Crime and Safety Index is based largely on user-contributed perceptions of crime and safety. It should therefore not be treated as an official ranking based on police-recorded crime statistics. 1. Harare: Safety Index 39.3 Zimbabwe’s capital tops the Southern African list with a Safety Index of 39.3 and a Crime Index of 60.7. Harare’s position may come as a surprise given concerns about crime in major African cities. However, based on Numbeo’s data, the Zimbabwean capital has the highest perceived safety level among the Southern African cities included in the ranking. 2. Windhoek: Safety Index 32.4 Namibia’s capital ranks second, recording a Safety Index of 32.4 and a Crime Index of 67.6. Windhoek is one of Southern Africa’s major tourism and business centres and performs better on Numbeo’s safety measure than the South African cities appearing in the ranking. 3. Cape Town: Safety Index 26.3 Cape Town ranks third with a Safety Index of 26.3 and a Crime Index of 73.7. The South African coastal city is one of the region’s most popular destinations, attracting tourists from across the world. Despite its popularity, its safety score reflects significant perceptions of crime in parts of the city. 4. Gqeberha: Safety Index 21.4 Port Elizabeth, now officially known as Gqeberha, has a Safety Index of 21.4 and a Crime Index of 78.6. It ranks ahead of several major South African cities, including Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria. The city is known for its beaches, tourism industry and location along South Africa’s Eastern Cape coast. 5. Durban: Safety Index 19.6 Durban rounds out the top five, recording a Safety Index of 19.6 and a Crime Index of 80.4. The KwaZulu-Natal coastal city ranks below Harare, Windhoek, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth but remains ahead of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Pietermaritzburg in the Numbeo data. What the ranking means The Numbeo figures offer a snapshot of how people perceive crime and safety in different cities. They should not be treated as official crime statistics or a definitive measure of actual crime levels. The data nevertheless highlights a notable regional trend: Harare has the highest perceived safety score among the Southern African cities included, while four of the five cities in the top five are located in Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa. For travellers and residents, the ranking can be used as a starting point when assessing destinations, alongside official crime statistics and information about specific neighbourhoods.
