Кастомная оптика окупается при массовом производстве приборов

The Real ROI Of Custom Optics In Instrument Design | Melles Griot Advantage Custom optics are often assumed to come with a premium price tag—but for high-volume instrument development, that assumption can overlook the bigger picture. This article from IDEX Health & Science explores how the true cost of an optical system extends well beyond the initial component price. While off-the-shelf optics may appear more economical upfront, they can introduce hidden costs through engineering workarounds, complex alignment, integration challenges, and wasted sensor capacity. A custom approach can address these challenges earlier in the development process. By designing optics around specific application requirements, engineers can optimize performance where it matters most, simplify tolerancing and assembly, and reduce the time and effort required to integrate components into the final instrument. Improved performance across the full field of view can also mean more usable data per snapshot, potentially reducing the number of measurements needed and lowering operational costs. The economics become even more compelling as production volumes increase. For instruments built at scale, the efficiencies gained through a purpose-built optical system can outweigh the perceived premium of customization. Vertical integration can further reduce costs by bringing design, manufacturing, and final system integration together under one roof. Discover how taking a broader view of the Development Pathway can turn custom optics from a perceived expense into a strategic investment—and help optimize your instrument for performance, throughput, footprint, and long-term unit cost.
