The McMillan family was on vacation in Colorado when they received a dreaded phone call that their house in Coleman, Texas, was on fire. Their trip started on Father's Day and consisted of ziplining, train rides, and exploring - but it was cut short after receiving the harrowing call about the inferno on June 23 around 3.30pm. According to the Coleman Fire Department's report, by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the residency was already engulfed in flames, and smoke was billowing through the sky. The responders extinguished most of the remaining fire but had to exit and remove an exterior wall due to 'remaining hot spots that were inaccessible' due to roof collapse. Due to the extensive damage prior to the department's arrival, nearly everything the family owned was destroyed. There were no civilian casualties, but multiple family pets were killed in the inferno. In a statement to the Daily Mail, Amy McMillan said the family's three dogs were able to make it out, but four of their son's three-week-old kittens and 'momma cat' unfortunately did not. 'The first thing we saw when we got here was the wedding picture. It really broke us,' she said. Also among the rubble were three Bibles that survived the destructive inferno. 'It's just ironic that the important things stayed and the material things are gone. It's just proof that God does exist and that He's number one,' McMillan stated to KTXS. According to McMillan, one was in her son's room where all of his electronics were melted but his orange Bible was fine. The other two, found in the living room, were blackened and wet on the outside, but the contents remained untouched. The mom added: 'Everything was damaged due to the heat. Except the Bibles. We've always been firm believers of our God! Everything happens for a reason!' Despite the major setback, the McMillan family stated their faith, and the support of the Coleman community has helped them to move forward. Local friends, family, and strangers have donated clothing, money, and other essentials. The McMillans had no insurance and had been staying at a Budget Inn, before relocating to an Airbnb that was donated to them on July 1. There have been multiple community support efforts, including a GoFundMe, a bake sale that took place on July 4 that generated $500, and a brisket dinner fundraiser planned for July 11 with all proceeds going to the family. Amy McMillan has made many posts on social media about the continued support and process of resecuring their own housing. Stephen Benson donated his camper trailer that the family was able to bring home on July 3, with extra help from additional donations of supplies. After purchasing and installing appliances and furniture, the family intends to move back home July 7, just in time for their son Lane's 12th birthday. 'We appreciate all the support from every single person that donated, prayed, and shared our story. When we get settled, we will pay it forward!' The chief of the Coleman Texas Fire Department, Jimmy Watson, told the Daily Mail that the origin of the fire was most likely electrical in nature and stemmed from somewhere in the master bedroom. Authorities have ruled out 'any likelihood of arson or intentional fire,' and concluded it was 'accidental in nature.'
