Teradek Launches Bolt 7 With Wireless Data Pipeline
Teradek has debuted Bolt 7, a new version of its wireless video system that adds a 900MHz data pipeline alongside zero-delay video transmission.
The company said the update is the biggest change to the Bolt line since the original model debuted in 2013. Bolt 7 is designed to let crews move camera control, color management, telemetry and other tools without relying on Wi-Fi.
“The original Bolt replaced long SDI cable runs with a wireless zero-delay video system crews could trust,” said Colin McDonald, Teradek product manager. “Bolt 7 takes the next step with an all-new 900MHz RF pipeline that works in tandem with your zero-delay video signal and acts as a wireless Ethernet or USB cable replacement, enabling wireless camera control, color management, telemetry, and more without a Wi-Fi network.”
The Bolt 7 lineup includes 750, 1500 and MAX transmitter and receiver models. Teradek said each unit includes an integrated 900MHz radio that runs in parallel with zero-delay 4K video and simplifies Ethernet workflows by removing the need for Wi-Fi or extra on-camera hardware.
The company said the new transmitter is 20% smaller than the Bolt 6 XT model and includes a color OLED display for pairing, control and diagnostics.
For cinema workflows, Bolt 7 can send camera control and zero-delay video over a single connection. Teradek said the transmitter connects directly to the camera and can eliminate the need for a dedicated Wi-Fi network on set.
The system can send camera control to a remote SmallHD monitor, CTRL.5, laptop or iPad using supported camera control apps. Teradek said the dual video-and-data pipeline also supports wireless color management, audio communication and other workflows that previously depended on cables or extra hardware.
For live production, Bolt 7 combines camera telemetry, video shading and zero-delay wireless video into one connection. The company said crews can send zero-delay video to a switcher while delivering telemetry data to a Sony or Cyanview RCP in an OB truck or control room.
Bolt 7 TX includes a USB-C port for single-cable, zero-delay video and communication for iPhone camera workflows, along with DP-Alt Mode support for compatible cameras and monitors.
Teradek said the product line adds one new transmitter and two new receivers. The units include a 900MHz radio, a color OLED display with a simplified interface, optional single-cable pairing and new battery plate cradles for faster swaps.
Automated RF management in PageOS and the Bolt app streamlines transmitter and receiver pairing, the company said.
Bolt 7 TX is available in 750, 1500 and MAX models. Bolt 7 RX is available in 750 and 1500 models. Bolt 7 RX MAX can encode to an SD card.
Teradek said the units support up to 4K60 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR video over 12G-SDI and are compatible with Bolt 4K and Bolt 6 wireless ecosystems. The new 900MHz data feature works only between Bolt 7 units.
“Whether you’re on a feature, commercial, or live broadcast, the goal is the same: fewer boxes, fewer cables, fewer complications,” McDonald said. “Bolt 7 enhances the zero-delay wireless video productions rely on with a dedicated data pipeline for the control and production tools of tomorrow, and we can’t wait to see how our users invent new ways to use it.”
