14-летний футболист с протезом забил свой первый тачдаун в стартовой игре сезона

Fourteen-year-old James Melton has achieved a milestone that once appeared unlikely: the freshman scored his first high school American football touchdown while running with a prosthetic leg. Melton found the end zone during his team's opening game of the season, turning a routine handoff into a memorable moment as his teammates celebrated around him. The play was later featured by NBC Nightly News in a report presented by Hallie Jackson. Footage of the touchdown subsequently spread widely on social media, showing Melton carrying the ball before crossing the goal line. The teenager's achievement quickly attracted attention because he has played the sport while using a prosthetic leg since childhood. Reflecting on the moment, Melton said his first touchdown was 'overwhelming'. 'Right as I got up, my whole team was running at me, just slapping my helmet,' James fondly recalled. 'It's so exciting to see him as a father and see what the adversity this child's going through,' James' dad said. Melton Lost His Leg as a Toddler Melton has lived with a prosthetic limb for most of his life. According to reports, he lost his leg when he was just 22 months old after being born with a rare medical condition. Despite facing the challenges that came with becoming an amputee at such a young age, Melton learned to adapt and remained determined to stay active, eventually leading him to football. He was walking again several months later with the aid of a prosthetic, and his determination to remain active has continued into his teenage years. His story has now reached a much wider audience after the footage of his first high school touchdown went viral. A post shared on X by commentator Collin Rugg described Melton as a 14-year-old amputee who had scored his first touchdown and noted that losing his leg had not stopped him from pursuing his goals. The post had attracted significant attention by Wednesday. Melton has also shared a simple message that captures his approach to overcoming obstacles and his advice to other kids facing their own challenges: 'Never give up and always keep pushing.' 14-year-old amputee with a prosthetic leg scores his first touchdown during a high school football game. American football can place considerable physical demands on players, requiring speed, balance and coordination, making his ability to compete with a prosthetic particularly notable. Rather than treating the touchdown as an exhibition moment, reports have highlighted Melton's participation as part of his normal football journey. He took the handoff, ran towards the end zone and completed the play before teammates rushed over to celebrate with him. The teenager's story has resonated because his disability has not prevented him from pursuing a sport he clearly enjoys. His first high school touchdown has now become a defining early moment in his football career. For Melton, however, the message appears straightforward. The score was not simply about reaching the end zone for the first time. It was another step in a journey that began after losing his leg as a toddler, and an example of the determination behind his mantra to 'never give up and always keep pushing'.
