Галерея Tanya Weddemire представит дебютную выставку на The Armory Show 2026

Tanya Weddemire Gallery makes armory show debut with O’Neil Scott, Austin Uzor Tanya Weddemire Gallery will make its inaugural presentation at The Armory Show 2026, featuring contemporary artists O’Neil Scott and Austin Uzor in an exploration of immigration, displacement, identity and the diasporic experience. The presentation brings together Jamaican-born Scott and Nigerian-born Uzor, whose distinct approaches create a visual dialogue around the experiences of immigrants navigating and rebuilding their lives in foreign lands. Scott, an oil painter born in Spanish Town, Jamaica and based in Philadelphia, works across figuration and abstraction, often placing the human subject at the centre of his compositions. His work explores immigrants as conduits of resilience, strength and tenacity as they create new physical and emotional sanctuaries far from where they began. Rooted in portraiture, Scott’s wider practice addresses social justice, climate change, immigration and other issues that speak to personal and collective experiences. In 2025, he debuted his first large-scale solo museum exhibition at the Zillman Art Museum at the University of Maine. His work has also been exhibited at the National Gallery of Jamaica and featured in IN FOCUS at the Morris Museum. Scott has presented at art fairs including SCOPE Art Show and EXPO CHICAGO, with his paintings held in corporate and private collections in the United States and internationally. Uzor, meanwhile, uses abstraction and figuration to examine the journeys of African migrants, from historic passages through the Sahara Desert and across the Mediterranean Sea to contemporary experiences shaped by assimilation, opportunity and growth. His work intertwines themes of displacement, political unrest and upheaval while maintaining a focus on the humanity of those undertaking these journeys. The Nigerian-American artist and educator lives and works between Dallas and New York. Uzor earned his bachelor of fine arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, before moving to the United States in 2016, an experience that became central to his exploration of psychological spaces. He later earned a master’s degree in drawing and painting from the University of North Texas. His work has been exhibited in London, Paris and New York and is held in collections including the International African American Museum in South Carolina and the Newark Museum of Art in New Jersey. He has also participated in major art fairs including EXPO CHICAGO, Dallas Art Fair and 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. Together, Scott and Uzor highlight the importance of preserving diasporic stories and lived experiences through communal ties, memory and storytelling. Established in 2022, Tanya Weddemire Gallery is a Brooklyn-based contemporary art gallery located in Industry City. Founded by Tanya Weddemire, the gallery presents emerging and established artists whose practices explore identity, heritage and contemporary narratives.
