Steeplejacks are working high above Chicago Avenue now, finishing up a project that began early this summer. It all started with removing the weathered old copper shingles. And in not too much time at all, the new shingles will acquire the same greenish patina as the old ones they replaced. So admire the glitter while you can. The Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister at Lake Street Church, says the work shouldn’t have to be redone for another 70 years. The steeple work is estimated to cost about a third of the $1.2 million project underway to make a range of improvements at the church.
