Swerving driver on Highway 1 near Pritchard received treatment after going into diabetic shock Cops help diabetic driver Mounties say a medical emergency was able to be safely resolved with paramedics' help after police received multiple calls reporting a potential impaired driver on Highway 1 near Pritchard. Chase RCMP said on July 3, police received reports of an erratic driver heading east on the Trans-Canada Highway near Pritchard. Multiple people told officers that a brown Honda Civic was swerving across the road and hitting traffic cones. Officers soon found the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. “Officers spoke with the driver, who appeared confused and initially seemed unaware of why they had been stopped,” said Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg. “The driver later advised police that they were diabetic, raising concerns they were experiencing a medical emergency rather than impairment.” BC Emergency Health Services personnel called to the scene soon determined the driver’s blood glucose level was critically low and required immediate treatment. The Honda Civic was towed away from the scene by a local towing company.
