В SUNY Oneonta открыли историческую доску в память о первом здании колледжа

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WBNG) - SUNY Oneonta celebrated its 137th anniversary Friday afternoon by unveiling a new historical marker on the road where its original “Old Main” building once stood before the site was converted into an apartment complex. Dr. Marcela Micucci, executive director of the Greater Oneonta Historical Society, was in attendance and unveiled the new marker for Old Main alongside SUNY Oneonta President Alberto Cardelle. “We’ve done many of these throughout the town and city of Oneonta, but this one in particular was a lot of fun for us because we were able to collaborate with SUNY Oneonta and kind of amp up those town and gown relations and be able to help preserve SUNY Oneonta’s rich history,” Micucci said. “Faculty and especially students really benefit if they knew they were part of something bigger. That 77,000 alums came before them,” Cardelle said. Crowd gathers at Maple Park After the unveiling, the crowd gathered under a tent at Maple Park, where refreshments were provided. President Cardelle was joined there by his predecessors at SUNY Oneonta. “I’m humbled. To walk around and see the former presidents and to think they entrusted me to be in that is pretty humbling,” Cardelle said. Old Main’s history Cardelle said the school’s original Old Main location hosted 700 students and 15 faculty at its peak. All that remains of the original building are the steps by the road. Cardelle said it is unlikely SUNY Oneonta would change locations again since the school found its roots. “It’s an inspiration that we started so small to what it is now. And more importantly, it inspires me to continue that trajectory and keep making it better,” Cardelle said.
