В районе Принс-Альберта проходят фестиваль танцев, музыкальные концерты и торжества по случаю 150-летия Договора №6

With back-to-school season just around the corner, summer may feel like it is winding down, but there is still plenty happening around the Prince Albert area for those looking to make the most of the remaining weeks. From arts programs and activities at Prince Albert National Park to a major Treaty 6 commemoration and a free music festival in Waskesiu, here are some ways to get out and enjoy the rest of August. Those looking to get moving can also hit the dance…grass? at Kinsmen Park on Aug. 29. Salsa in Kinsmen Park is a free, all-ages outdoor dance experience at the Kinsmen Park Amphitheatre. Instructor Keith Hitchings will guide participants through the basics of Latin dance, including salsa and bachata. No previous experience is required. Following the lesson, the space will open for social dancing until 7 p.m., giving participants a chance to practise their new steps and meet other dancers. Pre-registration is encouraged, although drop-ins are welcome. In case of bad weather, the event will move to the Margo Fournier Arts Centre, with priority given to registered participants. Daily Discovery runs Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Main Beach Stage. Art in the Park takes place Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Campfire Hill, while Tipi Teachings are held Fridays from 7 to 8 p.m. Prince Albert National Park is offering public programming until Aug. 29. In August, the program runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and includes a wolf caravan following the stage presentation. Visitors can also take part in a self-guided Botanical Ramble, weather permitting, and look for chalk art along the path to the Nature Centre while learning about medicinal plants and their Cree, French and English names. The park’s Gathering of the Guardians will take place Aug. 29 and 30 at Campfire Hill from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a focus on conservation, along with bannock and tea. Treaty 6 150th commemoration One of the biggest events of the month will take place at Fort Carlton Provincial Historic Park from Aug. 20 to 23 as Treaty 6 marks its 150th anniversary. The four-day commemoration will include ceremonies, cultural programming, forums, music, dancing, food and opportunities to learn more about the history and continuing significance of Treaty 6. The schedule includes traditional ceremonies, an Elders and Knowledge Keepers forum, youth and leadership forums, a Village of Nations, vendor marketplace, children’s activities, Treaty 6 parchment viewing and Fort Carlton tours. Students and staff members paddle on the North Saskatchewan River during a 348-kilometre canoe journey between Fort Pitt and Fort Carlton, marking the 150th anniversary of Treaty 6. The commemoration will wrap up Sunday with a Treaty 6 150 commemorative ceremony, including a grand entry featuring Treaty 6 chiefs, dignitaries and special guests. An updated Fort Carlton cairn plaque and a Treaty 6 150th commemorative monument are also scheduled to be unveiled. The free, family-friendly event will feature musical performances throughout the weekend along the Waskesiu lakeside. Images from last year’s Waskesiu Lakeside Music Festival.
