Продюсер Сью Маслин удостоена высшей награды общества кинематографических новаторов Австралии

The Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers will award producer Sue Maslin its top honour in a ceremony this November. Maslin will be named National Cinema Pioneer of the Year, recognising her more than 35 year career, the influence her films have had on the Australian screen landscape and her advocacy for the industry. Society of Australian Cinema Pioneers president Lori Flekser said Maslin was among the most respected and admired figures in Australian cinema. “I cannot fathom how Sue has had the time, energy and persistence to produce so many award-winning films and documentaries while educating and supporting future generations of filmmakers, advocating for women in the screen industries and promoting a healthier commercial feature film industry. “And she’s not close to done yet! Amongst other activities, she recently started an Australian film festival in Tasmania. Going ‘above and beyond’ for the benefit of the industry is precisely why Sue personifies the purpose and principles of the National Cinema Pioneer of the Year Award.” Maslin is known for features such as Road to Nhill, Japanese Story and The Dressmaker, the latter of which earned more than $20 million at the box office and five AACTA Awards. Her significant body of documentary work includes Celebrity: Dominick Donne, AFI-winner Hunt Angels, Mr. Neal Is Entitled To Be An Agitator, winner of the Australian Human Rights Award for best Documentary, Harry Seidler: Modernist and The Edge of the Possible: Jørn Utzon and the Sydney Opera House. More recently, Maslin produced The Search for the Palace Letters and served as executive producer on Brazen Hussies, Anonymous Club – Courtney Barnett and Jimpa. In 2008, Maslin and her business partner Daryl Dellora founded production, distribution and rights management company Film Art Media. It has a focus on connecting documentaries with audiences over the long-term and driving social change through impact campaigns, such as that for The Show Must Go On, which focused on mental health in the entertainment industry. In addition to her work as a producer, Maslin is a longstanding advocate for the industry across education, leadership, creative business sustainability and gender equity. In 2012, she won the inaugural Jill Robb Award for Outstanding Leadership, Achievement and Service to the Victorian Screen Industry, and in 2019, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the Australian film industry as a producer and through her leadership with professional organisations. Across her career, she has served as Adjunct Professor in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University, Adjunct Fellow, School of Film & Television at Swinburne University, and president of the Natalie Miller Fellowship. She is currently patron of Women in Film and Television (WIFT) Victoria. Maslin also initiated and steered the Australian Feature Film Forum, which was designed to unite producers, distributors and exhibitors for industry-wide dialogue. Reflecting on her career, Maslin said she had the “the privilege of working with many exceptional colleagues to drive positive change and opportunities for filmmakers.” Last year, Maslin established the Bicheno Oz Film Festival on the east coast of Tasmania, showcasing Australian and New Zealand films. Past recipients of the National Cinema Pioneer of the Year award include Sue Milliken, David Stratton, Jill Robb, Russell Boyd, Natalie Miller, and Andrew Mackie and Richard Payten of Transmission Films. Maslin will be presented with the award at the Society’s 93rd anniversary celebration in Sydney November 18.
