Канадцы опасаются превращения страны в государство тотальной слежки

Sudbury letters: U.S. and Canadian angst; Canada a surveillance state? Article content I don’t like what I am seeing from the Americans Did Howard Lutnick (the American Secretary of Commerce) actually want a trade deal with Canada? Recommended Videos If his sons are profiting from higher tariffs, why would he want a deal? After building a massive crypto business within Cantor Fitzgerald, Lutnick then helped position his sons Kyle and Brandon to the top of the firm when he entered Trump’s cabinet. The sons were taking full advantage of the crypto boom at around the same time the Trump family was building its own crypto company, World Liberty Financial. I heard Canada had a good deal until Howard got involved and complained they were giving the Canadians too good a deal. So, everyone suffers except them when tariffs are put in place. Just my two cents. Peter Browne Sudbury PS: I do not like what I’m seeing and hearing south of the border. Here’s why Canada is becoming a surveillance state If you don’t think that we live in a surveillance state, go to the Deflock Canada map and see where the license plate reading cameras are in Sudbury and, by default, the remainder of the country. I have seen these cameras appear lately, but I had no idea of the numbers. (Note: Deflock Canada is a crowdsourced open-source tool that pinpoints the locations of Automated License Plate Readers and surveillance cameras on OpenStreetMap to promote surveillance transparency.) You could be on either side of this debate about whether safety has a price, but it all seems too Orwellian to me. I know that only 15 per cent of people actually read a book last year. And that young people have tuned out the news, don’t subscribe to newspapers, claim to get their news online, but when you speak with them, they are constantly surprised to hear about important stories since they don’t read the news. I know that a government surveillance story would not have flown with past generations, but I do not expect young people today to give more than a shrug. Things, they are a changing … Ed Poisson Sudbury
