Школа Святого Патрика в Кимберли отмечает 129-летие и внедряет искусственный интеллект в обучение

Central SA St Patrick’s CBC looks to the future as Kimberley school turns 129 ─── SIYAKHOLWA MBATYAZWA 10:24 Fri, 04 Sep 2026 St Patrick’s CBC in Kimberley is marking its 129th anniversary while preparing learners for a rapidly changing world, with a growing focus on technology, artificial intelligence, and responsible use of social media. The school was established in Kimberley in 1897, at a time when the city was growing alongside the diamond trade. St Patrick’s CBC executive head Craig Neave said the school remains shaped by its history, traditions, and ethos, with its Catholic values continuing to play an important role. “We’ve grown into a modern school in the 21st century, which has stuck to its values and principles, which are universal, and we appeal to a broad segment of the population in modern society.” AI and technology play a crucial role. The school has been exploring innovative ways to introduce learners to these tools and prepare them for the working environment. “We have computer labs everywhere and Wi-Fi. We’ve just employed someone responsible for solutions and data analysis. We are definitely taking a bold step into the AI and technology world.” St Patrick’s CBC executive head Craig Neave. They will become more capable in the future, so there’s little point in trying to ban them from schools; that simply isn’t realistic.” Neave said it’s important for parents to monitor their children’s online activity, as engaging with strangers can lead to difficult situations. He added they are really fortunate to have the support of the community and former learners who have done well in their respective fields. “This weekend, we’re celebrating our 129th birthday as well as our alumni weekend. We welcome former students, some travelling from overseas, to return and share memories. Some have also offered their services and resources to help us continue growing and developing.” Looking ahead, Neave said he wants the school to continue being a hub for Kimberley and the Northern Cape. Maintaining academic standards and producing well-rounded young people would remain a priority. He urged learners to remember their roots and backgrounds, stay grounded, and maintain their connection with the school and the friendships they have made.
