В Белизе скончался 109-летний легенда спорта и общественный деятель Берти Эллис

And finally tonight, we note the passing of sporting legend and centenarian plus Gilbert Wilton "Bertie" Ellis at 109 years old. He passed away, leaving behind a long legacy in Belize. Over the course of more than 40 years, Ellis served as a warehouse keeper with both Santiago Castillo Company and the Belize Port Authority. In later years, he took on a role he especially enjoyed as a taxi driver. But beyond his work, Ellis was a cricket lover and participated in and supported several other sporting disciplines throughout his life. He also remained involved in the game as a coach and manager, including with the Guinness Softball team, where his daughter Glenda Ellis was a player. Ellis also contributed to public life through his involvement in several community organizations, including the Harmony Housing and Telephone Board. He also served as a Justice of the Peace and held the position of Grandmaster of the Oddfellows Lodge. Ellis never married but was the father of 18 children, three of whom predeceased him. He is survived by 15 children, along with numerous grandchildren and extended family members.
