Welcome to Seven in Seven, where we look at shows coming to the region over the next week. As always, whether your musical tastes are rock ’n’ roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter or indie, there will always be something to check out. Here are seven of the best on the docket for the week of Aug. 28.
Squeeze + Adam Ant — Friday at The Borgata Event Center
Fans of new wave are in for it Friday as Squeeze and Adam Ant will be in Atlantic City, N.J., at the Borgata Event Center. Squeeze’s enduring appeal, from classics like “Up the Junction,” “Tempted,” and “Cool for Cats,” is a catalog embraced by artists as wide-ranging as Erykah Badu and The Shins. Recent years have seen a revitalized lineup transform that legacy into a live show widely regarded as one of the strongest of their careers. It’s dynamic, sharp, and newly resonant with younger audiences discovering the band through streaming. Meanwhile, Ant is one of the defining figures of new wave, rising to fame in the early ’80s with Adam & The Ants and a string of era-defining hits including “Antmusic,” “Stand and Deliver,” and “Prince Charming.” Blending Burundi-influenced rhythms with glam swagger and punk energy, he became a central figure of the MTV generation.
Cowboy Mouth — Friday at Sellersville Theater 1894
Cowboy Mouth’s raucous live shows have made them a staple of the national club and festival circuit since the mid ’90s, seeing them perform thousands of shows over the years in front of 10 million-plus fans. Bandleader Fred LeBlanc is a true man of many hats as, in addition to handling drumming duties, he’s also the lead singer and frontman, and he writes a majority of the group’s music on guitar. The New Orleans alt/roots rockers and their devoted legion of fans still sing the chorus of their barn-burning jam — the Top 30 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit “Jenny Says” — like a high-octane mantra, along with the other catchy numbers in the Cowboy Mouth catalog like “I Believe” and “Everybody Love Jill.”
Ken Carson — Saturday at Stateside Live!
Atlanta-born artist Ken Carson is one of the defining voices of a new generation of rap. In 2025, he earned his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with “More Chaos,” which was also named one of the year’s best albums by various media outlets. The record has since amassed over 614 million global streams, building on the success of 2023’s critically acclaimed, Platinum-certified “A Great Chaos,” which has surpassed three billion global streams, produced the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Overseas,” and appeared on year-end best-of lists across numerous publications. His tour is in support of “Xperiment,” Carson’s fifth studio album, which debuted with nearly 16 million global opening-day streams, marking the sixth-biggest opening-day debut for a rap album this year. Built on his signature high-energy sound, the project marks a creative evolution, blending explosive production with more melodic, emotionally driven moments while continuing to push the boundaries.
The Bird Calls — Sunday at Young American
Friday sees the release of “Take Leave,” the new album from The Bird Calls, which is the project of New York-based, Philadelphia-bred musician, writer, and editor Sam Sodomsky, who has been home-recording and self-releasing dozens of albums since 2006. For the new record, he worked once again with producer Ryan Weiner, this time opting for a more live approach. The duo played all the instruments themselves and built songs around live-in-the-studio performances with Sodomsky on guitar and vocals and Weiner handling drums. The Bird Calls is doing three shows to celebrate the album’s release, with Sunday’s performance at Young American, in the Germantown-Mount Airy neighborhood, the finale.
Slayr — Tuesday at Brooklyn Bowl
Born Evan McDonald, North Philly rapper/producer Slayr began recording music at the age of 11, learning how to produce using instruments his mother got him and taking early influence from Japanese American rock band Crush40 and fellow Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert. He first began to build momentum in the rage rap space in 2022 with debut project “Lost Files (Exclusives),” gaining attention on TikTok with tracks such as “Snakeman.” He’s since established himself as a vital voice in modern music, blending trap, EDM, and metal to create a vibrant, maximalist sound.
Quicksand — Tuesday at Underground Arts
Iconic New York City post-hardcore band Quicksand recently released their latest album, “Bring on the Psychics,” marking an entirely new era for the storied three-piece. The LP serves as the sonic bridge between the group’s heavy and influential ’90s sound and the ambitious, experimental output contained within its more recent era. From the hook-driven heaviness of the opener “Get to It” to the shoegaze splendor of “Crystallize,” the band covers a lot of sonic ground on the record, but it always sounds like Quicksand.
Henry Moodie — Wednesday at The Foundry
Henry Moodie has the world at his feet. At just 22 years old, he’s already amassed over one billion streams worldwide, twice secured a spot in the annual Top 10 most viewed UK artists on TikTok, earned a place among Amazon Music’s “Artist to Watch,” and was listed as one of Rolling Stone’s “Artists to Watch” last year. After signing a global deal with Sony Music’s Columbia Records and Robots & Humans, he released his debut single, the heartfelt pop anthem “You Were There for Me,” in the summer of 2022. Written and produced entirely in his childhood bedroom, the song marked the beginning of his meteoric rise. Since then, Moodie has toured extensively worldwide, playing to over 500,000 people across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, achieved 13 times Platinum certification in Southeast Asia, and, most recently, released his debut album “Mood Swings.”
