BRIMFIELD — Under blindingly-bright sunshine, Betty Boop posed patiently in one spot, waiting for someone to take her home. The iconic cartoon character, created in the 1930s, was camped out in front of vendor Rob Moroney Jr.'s tent on the opening day of the Brimfield Antique Flea Market Tuesday. Moroney, who hails from Texas, said he's been setting up his Rob Rocks shop at the Route 20 fair for many years. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement "Same spot, every show," Moroney said. He added that the day's business "has been good; I've been very happy." The fall edition of the market drew collectors, dealers, designers and shoppers from across New England and beyond. One of them was Matthew Menice, of Plymouth, who said he has been attending the event for about eight years. "I'll be here until Thursday," he said, while pulling a wagon he hoped to fill with unique finds. Up and down Route 20, shoppers sifted through everything from antique furniture and vintage advertising signs to pottery, folk art, collectibles, and architectural salvage. Advertisement Advertisement But it was finding a one-of-a-kind item that was the goal of many shoppers. For Stacey Lewando, of Harwich, it was a carved ship's figurehead. "We're doing an old nautical wall in our house," she said, while negotiating a price with vendor Ron Harrison. Opening day featured several popular show fields loaded with sellers, including Quaker Acres, Crystal Brook, Shelton Antique Show, Green Acres and others. Additional fields are scheduled to open later in the week. The Brimfield Antique Flea Market is held every year in May, July and September.
