WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) has launched “Equipped to Serve,” a new podcast hosted by school President Scott Pace and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Jonathan Six. The first episode aired Sept. 3, with new episodes planned for every other week during the fall and spring semesters.
The first season of “Equipped to Serve” features conversations between Pace, Six and Southeastern faculty members representing a variety of disciplines and ministry experience. Each episode explores a different area of theological education and ministry, with a focus on how each subject applies to ministry in the local church.
Episodes will address topics such as how young pastors grow as leaders, the value of short-term mission trips and how churches can approach them effectively, what it looks like to start a counseling ministry in a local church, how ministry leaders can cultivate a church culture that values theological depth, and more.
“In a world filled with podcasts, ‘Equipped to Serve’ will contribute a distinct voice that engages theological, ministerial and cultural issues in a relevant and accessible conversation,” Pace said. “Our featured guests are uniquely qualified to discuss important topics from an informed perspective and offer practical insights that will equip listeners to serve Christ, His church and their community as they fulfill the Great Commission.”
The podcast reflects Southeastern’s emphasis on connecting theological education with preparation for ministry. While seminary provides students with a foundation for ministry, “Equipped to Serve” is intended as a resource for ministry leaders to continue to grow in their knowledge and practice after seminary.
“Through ‘Equipped to Serve,’ my hope is that our content and conversations will serve as helpful resources for equipping leaders for the work of ministry,” Six said. “My prayer is that with each episode, our audience will find encouragement, equipping, and edification that spur them on in their Great Commission work.”
The podcast grew out of years of conversations at Southeastern about the practical value of theological education for vocational ministry. Those conversations have focused on how theological education prepares students to serve the local church.
