South Point's 11 restaurants, anchored by the buffet, lose between $1.5 million and $2 million a month, according to General Manager Ryan Growney. Rather than a liability, the property treats the shortfall as a calculated cost of doing business, betting that diners will stay to gamble once they're through the door. "It's twofold," Growney said. "One, people love buffets. People come from The Strip. People come from all over Las Vegas to dine in our buffet because they love it. And two, we're feeding 10-thousand plus people a day. If I didn't get the 3-thousand plus covers out here on a daily basis, we wouldn't be able to feed all the guests we have. And so, are you ever going to take it out? Absolutely not. We love this thing, and it's here to stay." Growney has also acknowledged that rising food costs or shifting market conditions could eventually force a modest price adjustment, likely $1 or $2, to keep the buffet's losses within a sustainable range. However, he stressed any such move would be incremental and aimed at preserving the experience rather than phasing it out. "Buffets are dying, and no one can believe it," Growney said. "It's a Las Vegas staple forever, and I think people are honestly surprised that so many have been taken out. In fact, the majority of them. There's not many left." For longtime patrons, the buffet remains one of the property's biggest draws. Tony Sanchez, visiting from San Diego, has said it's his favorite part of coming to South Point. Locals Michael and Connee Kennedy visit twice a month, calling it a budget-friendly staple they pair with their regular trips to the casino floor. The attention has pulled in coverage from national outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, underscoring the buffet's role as one of the last holdouts of an all-you-can-eat tradition that once defined Las Vegas dining.
