South Korea’s The Rose recalls fondest Phl memories, thanks fans for a decade of support From playing Valorant to riding a “Power Rangers” bike, the members of South Korean alternative rock band The Rose recalled some of their fondest memories in the Philippines. Prior to their “Rosetopia” tour in Manila, Woosung, Dojoon, Taegyeom and Hajoon had previously visited the country and fondly remembered the fun moments they shared. “The warm smiles and the way they call us — it’s like they are very energetic, and they call me ‘Dojoon’ (in a high-pitched tone). And every time we see them, it puts a smile on our faces,” Dojoon said at a presscon. “When we’re with the staff in the Philippines, I really like, I do this with my friends, too, and we call each other ‘sir.’ Like, ‘Hey, sir.’ When I text my friends, I’m like, ‘OK, sir.’ I think the staff, they do that, and I kinda like doing it back. So, it makes me feel like we’re closer than… You know. Yes, sir!,” added Woosung. Interestingly, Woosung lived in the Philippines for about a year when he was six years old. “I think coming here, even though I only lived here for a year, it feels like a second home when we do the show because the people are so warm. We go to all kinds of different cities, and to me, personally, the Philippines feels like home a little bit. I was six years old (back then), and I remember riding a ‘Power Rangers’ bike.” Taegyeom, on the other hand, described Filipinos as kind and said they always make him smile, while Hajoon cited their respectful nature. Taegyeom also recalled playing the video game Valorant at the CONQuest Festival 2023. “It was so fun. It was such a unique, iconic moment for me. I will never forget Manila. That’s why I love Manila. It’s very important to me, and I have a lot of memories here.” After the presscon, the group went on to perform crowd-favorite anthems, such as Blue Moon, Utopia and Black Rose, during their “Rosetopia” concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, which was presented by L-Squared Productions. In April this year, The Rose announced that they would go on a hiatus after completing their tour and launching their “Rose” album. “We want to close this chapter with you the way it deserves… After this, we will be taking a break not as an ending, but as a moment to breathe… To grow… And to find ourselves again, individually… So that one day, we can come back to you with even more to give… This isn’t goodbye. It’s just.. once in a blue moon…” The Rose posted on Instagram. Among the highlights of their years in the music scene were their performances at “Lollapalooza” and the “Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival” in April 2024, the quartet shared. They expressed their gratitude to the fans, collectively known as Black Rose, who have supported them over the past 10 years and said that they will continue to “heal” people through their music. Dojoon was thrilled to be back in Manila and see their fans again after two years since their last visit to the Philippines. “All I wanna say is thank you for coming back, and I hope we see each other again.” Woosung, meanwhile, reflected that their “purpose is to heal through music.” “And that’s the kind of music that we want to make, and that’s the kind of impact we want to make,” he mused. “Throughout the 10 years, we’ve tried hard in making music that could heal people and be there for them through their ups and downs, happy times, sad times, frustrated times. That’s what we will keep doing throughout the years, and thank you for tuning in. Thank you for showing interest in our music. That’s what gets us going, and we ‘rose’ you guys.” “Thank you for walking with us side by side for 10 years. The main reason why we keep making music is because of you, guys. So, thank you so much for being part of The Rose for 10 years. We ‘rose’ you, and hope to see you guys, soon,” added Taegyeom.
