Сестра Кэтрин Макгарригл скончалась после жизни, посвященной вере и педагогике

THE late Sister Kathleen McGarrigle has been remembered for a life dedicated to faith, education and service to others. Formerly of the Convent of Mercy in Enniskillen and Gorminish Park in Garrison, Sister McGarrigle passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, at the Tilery Care Home. Educated locally in Garrison before attending Mount Lourdes in Enniskillen, Sister Kathleen showed from an early age the qualities that would come to define her life. She was described as being ‘energetic, talented and hardworking’, with a particular love of Irish dancing and a joy in sharing her gifts with others. At the age of just 18, she made the life-changing decision to enter the Sisters of Mercy in Enniskillen in February 1965, responding to what she felt was a call to dedicate her life to God and to others. She subsequently trained as a teacher in Manchester in 1970 and went on to spend many years teaching at the Convent Primary School in Enniskillen. Working with the youngest children, Sister Kathleen brought not only professionalism and commitment to her role, but also the ‘gentleness, warmth and kindness’ for which she became widely known. Her service extended beyond the classroom. She was involved with the Girl Guides at St Michael’s Parish, contributing her time and energy to the development of young people within the community. In 1979, she travelled to Florida, where she spent two years teaching before returning to Enniskillen. Her vocation later took her much further afield when she travelled to Brazil, spending seven years working alongside the Irish Sisters of Mercy in pastoral ministry. Her years overseas formed an important part of a life centred on service, before she eventually returned to her native area. In 2002, Sister Kathleen returned to Garrison, where she taught at Glenfarne National School before later taking on a role as a classroom assistant. Throughout her career, her care for children and her commitment to education remained central to her work. She is survived by her sisters Anne Gallagher and Mary Doherty and the Sisters of Mercy, Enniskillen. She was predeceased by her parents Kathleen and Edward and her brother-in-law Gerry. Following her Requiem Mass at Mary, Queen of Peace Church in Garrison, she was interred in the adjoining cemetery.
