Знаменитый комик Марк «Скиппи» Прайс выступит в театре Сан-Хуан 29 августа

Sharing a laugh with Marc ‘Skippy’ Price Published 1:30 am Wednesday, August 26, 2026 For one night only, Marc “Skippy” Price, well-known for his TV roles (like Skippy in NBC’s “Family Ties”), movies, as well as his stand-up, will be performing at the San Juan Community Theatre. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 for “A Night of Comedy.” “I love the theatre so much here. I am so inspired by their shows,” Price said, adding that he had watched a show directed by Nathan Kessler-Jeffery. Price told the Journal It was easily one of the best shows Price had seen. “That’s why I got in touch with them about doing a comedy show. They don’t do a lot of stand-up, and I suggested it because I wanted to be a part of it.” Called wickedly funny by the Boston Globe, and applauded by the LA Times as being “refreshingly bright,” the theatre’s website adds that he delivers “sharp high-energy stand-up – that’s way more than jokes – think storytelling with heart, improv sparks and that rare crowd connection.” Price has been involved in show business from a young age. His father was a stand-up comedian, his mother a singer. “She played guitar; she could sing Spanish and could sing different ethnic songs,” he recalled. A young Price would go on stage with her and hold her music. Being in what he called the Mad Men era, she had to put up with a lot, was always traveling and she hated it. She retired from showbiz to become one of the first female officers on the force in the ‘70s. “Again, they were mean to women. They didn’t want women on the police force. So it was like she left one thing and jumped into another that was arguably worse.” Nonetheless, she worked her way up, opening opportunities for women behind her. She went on to open her own private detective business and ended up being highly successful. His father continued to be a successful comedian and appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Price often introduced his dad to the stage and wanted to be a comedian. Comedy, he says, is healing, a sentiment that is backed up by science. “I tell my mom I’m a doctor,” He laughed. “In all seriousness, it is very healing.” In fact, it has been shown that even a smile can change the course of a person’s day. It wasn’t long before he was doing solo acts. The family moved to Westwood, California, and in his early teens, he began frequenting the Westwood Comedy Store. His dad was a respected comedian, Price said, so although theoretically people needed to be over 21 because they served alcohol, Price was able to slip in and hang out with younger comics. There was an little alley in the back, Price explained, where they would often be between sets, until some young up-and-coming comic was announced, like “a young Jim Carrey, a young Sam Kinnison, a young Andrew Dice Clay,” plus others, and they would all run in. “Arguably the names that you don’t know were the funniest ones, but the funniest ones never seem to have it in them to play the game to succeed, so you don’t even know the funniest ones,” Price said. His love of the Pacific Northwest began after performing at Seattle’s Comedy Underground. At one point, Jason Stewart, a friend and fellow comedian, took him sightseeing around the Cascades. “I was hooked,” Price said. He began visiting regularly, at first staying in cheap hotels, then camping, got a minivan and has been camping around with his adopted dog Casper ever since. While he has traveled all over, including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, he fell in love with Washington, Oregon and Northern California, the heart of the Pacific Northwest, and he has been coming to the San Juans for several summers. His van, complete with all the camping amenities, has stickers from Roche Harbor and Orcas. He has two projects in the works, one celebrating the 40th anniversary of the horror movie “Trick or Treat,” featuring Gene Simmons and Ozzie Osborne, and the other is “Witchcraft,” part 11 in the Witchcraft series. “It’s a cool role. It starts out as what everybody would presume I would play the nice guy, but turns out he’s really the bad guy. I’m not the monster. It’s a horror movie; there is a monster, but I am the secret antagonist,” Price said with a grin. In the meantime, Price is happy to be able to share humor with islanders on the island, a place he is quickly feeling at home. “What can I say, I fell in love with the island; it gives me great joy to be here, like everybody else. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. And even though I visit for a few weeks each summer, I’ve been doing it long enough where I find myself saying things like ‘Fricking tourists! How many people from California can we handle?’” Price laughed. Ticket prices are $25 per adult, $15 per student and student rush is $5 at the door.
