SGMC Health names Blood Bank team as Health System Heroes Published 8:38 am Wednesday, August 26, 2026 VALDOSTA — SGMC Health has named members of its Blood Bank team as Health System Heroes, recognizing their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to ensuring lifesaving blood products are available for patients facing traumatic injuries, medical emergencies, surgeries, and other critical situations. The recognition honors Kathryn Murchie, Autumn Daniels, Darby Browning, Gina Phanthavong, Yvarie Price, Kirah Rollins, Jerrod Hampton, Kimberly Dickinson, and Sarah Wilder, whose expertise and support play a vital role in patient care across the health system. While patients may never meet the individuals working in the Blood Bank, their efforts help make lifesaving treatment possible every day, the health system said in a press release. Behind every unit of blood issued is a highly coordinated process involving testing, preparation, inventory management, and communication, SGMC Health said. Blood Bank team members work around the clock to ensure blood products are available when needed, supporting trauma teams, physicians, surgeons, nurses, and caregivers throughout the organization. The demands placed on this team are extraordinary. During major trauma events, they may issue large quantities of blood products to critically injured patients while continuing to support emergency and routine transfusion needs across the health system. Their work requires exceptional attention to detail, precision, and teamwork under pressure. “Patients may never meet the individuals working in our Blood Bank, but their work has a direct impact on countless lives every day,” said Hilary Gibbs, senior vice president and chief administrative officer. “This team consistently rises to the challenge, providing lifesaving support during emergencies while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Their dedication and commitment to patient care make them truly deserving of this recognition as Health System Heroes.” The recognition highlights the essential role the Blood Bank team plays in delivering safe, timely care across SGMC Health. Through their expertise, teamwork, and dedication, these team members help ensure lifesaving blood products are available when patients need them most. SGMC Health participates in an array of recognition programs to honor employees who most exemplify the organization’s tagline, “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.” To learn more, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
