В США на 16-й лунке гольф-клуба открыли цветочный дизайн в виде флага к 250-летию страны

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) - SentryWorld’s Flower Hole, the course’s famous 16th hole, features a new design this year honoring America’s 250th anniversary. The hole is surrounded by red, white and blue flowers arranged in the shape of the American flag. “There was a lot of conversation going back and forth and thoughts on what to do with that design to make it really pop, to make it look the best. And couldn’t be more happy with the way it came together,” said Danny Rainbow, Director of Golf at SentryWorld. A yearly tradition Since 1982, SentryWorld has placed 50,000 flowers around the green of its 16th hole. The design changes each year to keep the hole feeling new. “Even though the flower hole has been around since the beginning, the golf course itself has just gained more notoriety over the last five to 10 years,” Rainbow said. It takes a grounds crew of around 20 people three to four days to complete the design. “I don’t know exactly how they managed to do it, but they’re masters at it, and they get it down to the T every year,” Rainbow said. This year’s design was chosen to honor America’s 250th birthday, with each red, white and blue flower placed to mimic the stars and stripes of the American flag. “There are designs on paper that the team is working off of and kind of laying out the exact lines of each bed and which type of flower goes within one,” Rainbow said. Low traffic helps upkeep Rainbow said crews are able to keep the Flower Hole in good condition because of low traffic through the course. SentryWorld keeps tee times 20 minutes apart, making the course less crowded than other courses typically are. “Being a destination is part of our identity. We want to be something that draws tourism to the community,” Rainbow said. Hosting major tournaments Since 2019, SentryWorld has hosted the U.S. Girls Junior Championship and the Men’s U.S. Senior Open. The Flower Hole has become a fan favorite among professional golfers. “They’re people just like the rest of us, and they’re, you know, golf fans and avid golfers just like many of us are, and to see something that unique and different, just like your average golfer, it’s kind of a wow factor for them, and they really enjoy it,” Rainbow said.
