UK machinery manufacturer heads to Germany with its flagship crop-cleaning system as PotatoEurope brings the international potato industry together near Hanover.
Scotts Precision Manufacturing will be among the machinery specialists exhibiting at PotatoEurope 2026 in Germany on September 9 and 10, where the British manufacturer plans to put its flagship Evolution Separator centre stage.
The Lincolnshire-based company has confirmed to Potato News Today that visitors will be able to find the Scotts team at Stand GD40, with an Evolution Separator on display.
This year’s PotatoEurope takes place at Rittergut Gestorf 1 in Springe, near Hanover. Organisers describe the event as a meeting point for the potato industry’s entire value chain, bringing together developments in breeding, cultivation, harvesting, machinery, storage and processing. The new SugarBeet Expo will run alongside PotatoEurope for the first time.
Evolution takes centre stage
For Scotts, the event provides an opportunity to present a machine that has become central to the company’s international business.
First developed in 2005, the Evolution Separator is designed to remove clods, stones, haulm and loose soil while minimising damage to potatoes and other crops.
At the heart of the system are pairs of contra-rotating rollers. Scotts’ deformable spiral roller works alongside a smaller clod roller to draw unwanted material into the space between the rollers. Softer debris can be crushed and expelled beneath the separator, while the spiral roller is able to deform around harder material such as stones.
The machine can also be adjusted for different crops and operating conditions through control of roller speed and direction, roller gaps, clod-roller height and separator angle.
Although potatoes remain one of its principal applications, Scotts says Evolution systems are being used for a considerably wider range of crops, including sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, parsnips, beetroot and other root crops and alliums.
A significant milestone behind the machine
The Evolution arrives at PotatoEurope following an important milestone for Scotts.
In October 2025, the company announced the sale of its 1,000th Evolution Separator, some 20 years after the first model was introduced.
Scotts says the machine has continued to evolve during that period. Among the changes introduced in its second generation was a move from the original chain-drive arrangement to direct-drive motors, aimed at improving reliability and reducing maintenance requirements.
Development of the polyurethane spiral rollers has continued as well. Different roller configurations allow the separator to be adapted to conditions ranging from crops carrying considerable clod and soil to smaller potatoes or situations involving greater amounts of haulm and leafy material.
The company currently supplies machinery to more than 30 countries through its international dealer network, according to information published by Scotts.
PotatoEurope puts machinery and practice together
The setting could be particularly relevant for Scotts because PotatoEurope has traditionally placed a strong emphasis on practical agricultural technology rather than functioning solely as a conventional indoor trade exhibition.
Organiser DLG says PotatoEurope 2026 will bring together current developments in potato cultivation, agricultural machinery and processing, with demonstrations and opportunities for growers, processors, advisers, researchers and equipment manufacturers to meet and compare technologies.
The 2026 event marks PotatoEurope’s return to Germany following the 2025 edition in Lelystad in the Netherlands.
For growers and potato industry professionals attending the two-day event, Scotts says its team will be available at Stand GD40 to discuss the Evolution Separator and its application in potato cleaning and handling systems.
With more than two decades of Evolution development now behind it—and more than 1,000 machines sold—the German event will give visitors an opportunity to examine the technology at close quarters and discuss with Scotts how the separator can be configured for different crops, soils and handling requirements.
